I am a C type, too, at the moment skipping a few challenges due to lack of time. I am also a DPC addict. :-)

I'm not a photographer at all.
What am I doing here? Well, I was introduced to this site by my brother when he told me he won his first ribbon and I wanted to see what he was up against. I was immediately impressed by the quality of so many of the photos, so I continued to check back in regularly. Danny encouraged me to join so that I could vote and comment to the photographers themselves, not just telling him what I think of your work (not to mention, I wanted to see more than just the thumbnails!). He insisted that y'all are interested in the opinions of the kinds of people that would potentially purchase and display your work, not just fellow photographers. After all, you might not be a poet, but that doesn't mean he can't appreciate Shakespeare. And you may not be a painter, but that doesn't mean you can't like Monet. I'm not a photographer, but I love photography. THAT is why I am here. |

I used to be a sold 'C', but due to work and other commitments over the last year, I've slipped to a borderline 'D'... but at least doing site council stuff gives me something to do here :o)

Are you sure you didn't mean "I'm B, trying to avoid requests to be A"? Because yesterday in this thread, you said:
Originally posted by Gorden: but as these are selling for $500 or more unframed, I want to have good quality. |
I would certainly be thrilled to sell any one of my photos for $50, let alone $500!
Personally, I fall in category C, but wish I could move up to B, if for no other reason than to help offset the cost of some new lenses, some studio strobes, etc.

Presumably, they're too busy to participate. I think DrJones is a good example of (A). Kiwiness is probably an (A) now too.

I guess technically I'm E) selling my pictures but giving away the money because the US government won't let me make a profit and stay in the country

Well, I sort of started out as a hobby photographer, but have been getting a few odd jobs here and there. Maybe someday I'll actually make money at it, but right now I'm just enjoying it as a hobby. |

For all of you who are or where in A or B, how do you like it? Does it still keep you excited or does it make you not like photography as much as if you were just a C? I am a C praying that maybe one day I'll become a good B or A.
Also, I have another little question. Has anyone here submitted a picture to picture.com? If so, did you get invited to go to Washington D.C. for some great activities and competitions because I did and I figure they send those out to everyone who submits a picture. (just one more...) And if you have gotten one of those emails, are you going or have you gone before?
Thanks so much guys, I know that was a lot of questions for ya but if you can answer any of them, I'd love to hear what you have to say!

I am (c), having had the luck of being trained by an uncle who was (a) during his whole life.
I am not surprised that there are not (a) yet.
Most of us, IMHO, enjoy photography for the freedom that we can exercise doing it.
I am sure if it would become a commercial activity, most of us would lose a great part of the fun. |
