Anyone know why when I take pictures with my camera they are saved in several different folders on the memory card? I was just playing around with my camera and in one shoot (never turned camera off) I had the images saved in 12 different folders on the member card. Many of the images only had 1 or 2 shots in them. Any ideas?
Attached is a screen shot of what I mean:

Canon has some quirky way of separating images. I believe it's related to the numbering of the images so if you were playing around with the options related to image sequencing that could explain all the folders 100, 101, 102, etc.
If it's not that I don't have a clue. ;o) |

when you are emptying a used card, do you erase the images or do you format the card?
The only time I get a second file is if I have shot a LOT of images, and even on a 4 gig card I never get more than 2 folders, even if switching to RAW and Jpeg. I format the card every time I insert one for a new shoot. Erasing images can leave folder while removing files from them. |

I dont format but I erase all remaining folders when I finish moving them.

The recommended way of cleaning a card is by formatting. Erasing only can potentially lead to corrupt cards as data isn't really erased, just the reference to it is erased. |

If that doesn't work, try steaming the card with a half pound broccoli bulb, then serve it in your BF/Husband's soup. The longer he chews it, the better your chances of negotiating for a bigger/better card!

ETA: To clarify that this post was in sheer humor. Please do NOT attempt it. And if you mind me posting that, oh well.. I will await your nasty gram:-)

my camera does this when it is saving them as new folder for each day i shoot on. So it creates a folder with number based on that date. Check if the issue is related to this.
PS: sorry i do not have canon so might not be helpful. |

They are seperated in folders based on the image name, IMG_0000 to IMG_0099 would be in one folder IMG_0100 to IMG_0199 would be in the next, etc. If you are erasing images as you shoot there will be missing files in the sequence, so if you are erasing a lot of pictures as you shoot the file folder will only have a few images in it.

It depends on what you are trying to do, formatting the card will clean up the empty folders, but the camera will still create new folders when you shoot. I think that there is a setting to change the image file naming from continuous to restarting at IMG_0000 when you format the card. I wouldn't change it because you will get a lot of duplicately named pictures.
I hope that makes some sense. |

Just an FYI formatting the card makes the folder problem go away!!! |
