I have recently been in a funk with my photography (haven't touched my camera all summer) and I have also recently been designing fun, cute, wallpapers like these:

So, to get OUT of my funk, I was thinking maybe a side challenge for the month of July. 30 Days of Wallpaper. To help myself (the rest of you may choose not to follow this) I have to have some rules:

1.) You must use part of a photograph that YOU have taken in the month of June or July in your composition (even if it's only a background texture).

2.) You must have fun.

3.) There are no other rules.

If you want to do a theme for the month, wonderful. If not, wonderful. I like laid back side challenges with no restrictions on Photoshop work.

So, anyone interested?

This might just be my cup of tea for the month. I've been right there with ya in that funk. Though I did take a few hundred last night for the first time since the NYC gtg.

Sign me up. I frequently have shots that would not stand well on their own, but make great desktop backgrounds. A wallpaper shot is very different, because it has to be interesting, but not a pattern that camouflages the desktop icons.

Are we going to post these in full wallpaper size resolution? If so, do we post them in our workshops so that others can use them?

I cant commit to all 30 days but I would love to get involved.

Spaceman Spiff, you can upload the full size to your regular portfolio and folks can still use them. They just have to click on view full sized image before they can right-click save :)

I gotcha both down. :)

Seeing I, too, love laid back side challenges with no restrictions on Photoshop work, I would love to participate in this.

YAY!! :)

I'll watch. I suck at Photoshop and not in a good way like the guy who does the videos. But I'll watch!

Do these need to be any particular dimensions?
06/30/2010 05:02:16 AM · #19
I'd be interested in trying this, particularly with some text involved - i think i might like to try passages from books - but i must admit to having no idea where to start with these sorts of images

I'm interested! It's too hot outside to do much, this sounds like fun. I'll be working at my screen's resolution of 1920x1080, & you're all welcome to right-click on any you want. "D

1680px X 1050px is the dimensions I use simply because that's what size my monitor is LOL!!

I say we just post in this thread too. It's not too busy :)

This is going to be fun and I CANNOT WAIT!! yay.

I'd like to play... if you'll let me with the understanding that I probably won't have all 30 days represented :)

I gotcha down. :)

I think any monitor size will work but I like the samples you originally posted JoJo and downloaded the original so I would have a template. I did a lot of shooting in June - so I'm going to follow the "rules" and use images from June only. I might have a few that will follow a theme but I'll probably be all over the board (like my yoyo scores in the challenges). : )

It'd be cool if the images were made available in 1920x1200 as that is the highest "normal" resolution for monitors right now.

Of course, including a few other popular dimensions would be awesome, but we should at least shoot for the high end of size I think..

Cheers..
