Has anyone tried to made some posters to sell? Like full colour 11 x 17 posters ? I'm really curious about the quality if I print it from "3072 x 2048" JPG.

Actually, at the beginning of each term at my school, there came a local store selling posters to students... People are loving to buy posters...

I printed my photo

Sunset Bow

20"x30" at Shutterfly using only the 4MP resolution out of the camera, and it came out fantastic. (Shutterfly lets the printer do the interpolation as opposed to the DPC policy to use software to interpolate to at least 150 dpi beforehand). We had it professionally framed and it hangs in our dining room.

For my DPCPrints gallery, I had to use incremental interpolation to get it big enough to sell large prints. I ended up purchasing Fred Miranda's interpolation action for PSe to make that easier.

I think you have plenty of resolution for 11x17--that's not even a very big poster! (BTW -- I don't think DPC makes you interpolate up to 150 dpi if you are ordering the poster yourself.)

I'm a little curious about the whole poster thing. 1)Where do you get prints made? Places like Kinkos? Or is there a cheaper alternative. 2)Who do you sell them to. In other words, say I want my prints to be sold in say...Target, for example. What is the progression from taking the picture to selling in an outlet like that? I'm new to the whole photography thing (digital and film) and would like to get into it as a living.

I have a poster that is available up to 20x30, however, I kind of cheated by using 8 photographs for it.

This interest me as well, and I'd like to know as well...

Not wanting you to feel uncomfortable so feel free to tell me to mind my own business but have you had any purchases? I, too, am interested in creating posters specific to certain occupations and am trying to get a feel for the market.

editted to include: Just did a quick look through DPC Prints and noticed a few things 1) searching for "poster" I got a small number of shots - many were 4x5 4x6 size - more postcard than poster, 2) no special category set aside for this genre, 3) several under "Emotive" that didn't have a key word poster - these were small as well.

All fair questions admart. I only sold one poster of that image and it's currently hanging in my family room. ;)

Don't let that discourage you though. There are several reasons for my lack of outside sales. First and foremost, mass produced posters are available for much cheaper prices than what I am offering this poster for. Additionally, the topic matter is foreign to many people. Few people have heard of Paracas, Peru so they probably can't relate to the theme. Had I compiled 8 pictures from the Galapagos, I am sure it would garner more interest.

Can someone tell me how the prints are made a DPCPrints? Are they archival? I couldn't find any info on the site. I currently have prints made at //www.pictopia.com It's the best archival print pricing I have found.

I get very good quality from the original Canon files:
3072px x 2048px, 180dpi, 11.378" x 17.067"

To size them up to 16" x 24" or etc. I use software by Fred Miranda:
"SI Pro v1.1 - Stair Interpolation Plugin" It does all the work in small increments and beats the heck out doing it manually!

I just ordered large 16" x 24" prints from DPC prints and they were great!
