The school my cousin's child is attending is having a spot the ginger bread man and is asking for people from all parts of the globe to send postcards. Her name is Kaitlin and the cards can be sent to the following address;

send postcards to Kaitlin @

Ms. Danielle Wolstat's Kindergarten Class
Avondale Alternative School
171 Avondale Avenue
Toronto, Ontario
M2N 2V4

It would be wonderful to get postcards from all over the globe as it is a great way for kids to learn about the geography of the planet. All you need to write is something along the line of Hi Kaitlin, I am in (insert place) and anything else you might want to include. The postcards can be one you made or just an inexpensive one. I would really appreciate it and if you PM me I would gladly leave 3 comments for any responders. Sincerely, Maggie

As per the General's suggestion, please feel free to send a photo if you would rather.

1. Is there a deadline?
2. Any reason a 4x5 or 4x6 photo with a stamp and address label on the back wouldn't do as well as a postcard?

Thanks General .. and no to the time line as I think it is a project the class is having for the full school year. I don't think it would matter if it wasn't a postcard, I think that was just suggested to keep the costs down.

Nice idea. I'll send one from Wales where it is very very rainy today. So it may be a bit soggy!

When my kids were very young, I would help them to send a postcard home from wherever we were traveling...when we would get home they would "remember the places" and we could really talk about our trip...what they liked and didn't like...came across some of these awhile back and had to smile at them...

You all are so very kind to take time out of your busy days to do this - it sure will make a little girl smile and help her classmates learn about this wonderful world we live in. Thanks so much .. I will bump it every so often so please be patient with me :)

I just spoke to my cousin and the time frame is a few months .. I told her dad about this site and he wants to add his thanks for any photos, cards or whatever you send .. he will also send me a photo of the cards she received once the project is over and I will post it here.. he also said that a few children are making their own postcards and that tickles his daughter no end.

Might I ask what a "spot the gingerbread man" is and what has it to do with any of this?

To Spiritual pasta, the gingerbread man is a cookie who ran way .. to the kids in the classroom it gives them a chance to find out about all the places in the world the cookie might have run to ..thank you all who are going to participate .. you might want to get your children involved too .. it doesn't have to be a work of art ,, just a place in the world where that naughty gingerbread man bread man might be hiding ..I appreciate a teacher who goes to this length to make geography interesting .. and it makes me remember why DP is such a wonderful community.

I'll send one from Austin, Texas. I'll even add a little apology on the behalf of Texas about that whole school textbook thing. :P

I sent one today to the class, because I had forgotten about it being to Kaitlin. Maybe you could mention that to your cousin.

Thanks Yanko :)
and Pug, not to worry - the most important thing here is to get children interested in just how large our dear planet is and all the many cultures. Thanks so much!

My postcard is on the way, and I'll be asking family in New Zealand if they'd like to contribute, too.

Karin, that is so cool - really well thought out. Can I rip your idea?

Be my guest..... it's just a typical postcard layout, no new invention here :-)
