What time does the Exif show? That's what I would go by. |
The EXIF data shows 4:56 AM on the image I'm not going to use. But, it was a long enough exposure to go past 5:00 AM by the end of the exposure. This MIGHT be legal, but seems to be a technicality which could come around to be interpreted as illegal. I'm not saying it's out-of-bounds. But, no one has said anything about this situation. You know what they say about "assume". I'm not going to assume anything. |
I was looking at the last 4:00-5:00 am challenge, and there's one person (4th, or 5th actually) that took their photo at 7 am, and no one complained or got disqualified. And it was in the top 10! That's weird. Although, I guess it was while back, so who knows how the rules are now. Maybe stricter. |

Challenge descriptions are not "rules". There's no penalty for not adhering to them. In this particular challenge, however, they have flagged a special rule, saying if the picture was not taken within the specified timeframe it will be disqualified. That special rule was not in place for the previous iteration of this challenge.

Wow! Glad you are safe. The lengths we will go for photography.
Stay safe everyone! The only things out around here at 4a are javelinas and maybe coyotes. Definitely not me, don't know if I can make it that early. Guess I will find out tomorrow morning. |

Got up 3am and left the house 15 mins too late. Cab in to the city so that I had some time to actually take the photos. Walked around in the city for a while, lots of drunk people in Halloween costumes... Walked to Waterloo to catch the 5.30 train to Brockenhurst. On it now and will be there 7.20 to eat my breakfast! |

Woke up at 3:30 this morning (Saturday morning)..
Got out of bed at around 4 (a bit too late, I gathered). Quickly got dressed, and drove in to town..
Got there at around 4:15.. The sky was dull, the river was murky..
Met a few interesting characters still out from the night before.
Reminded me of a life I don't exactly miss.
I was glad to be out doing what I was doing, and not what they were.
In any case, I walked around my favourite alley ways but decided it wasn't worth the risk.
Took about 10-15 shots.
On my way back home I decided to stop by a marina -- I went out there with hotpastalast year, and always wanted to go back.
Unfortunately on the way there it started to rain. I knew it wasn't going to be fun.
I got there, changed lenses in the car, set the remote shutter, and covered my d300s and the 70-200 with a jacket I had in the back seat.
The morning was dark, gloomy, and humid. A few early birds were out jogging. Completely different life to the one I had met a mere 10 minutes earlier.
Didn't really want to stay too long due to the rain, but had an amazing time. Should have gone there from the beginning.
Got home, post processed my few favourite photos, and submitted the one I liked the best (or hated the least)..
I am paying for it now though. It's almost 9pm, and I've been up for 16 hours. Doesn't look like I'll be going to bed for another few hours, too..
Gah.
Another coffee and I should be fine! |

And then out in to the New Forest to shoot wildlife? |

Yes, indeed. Didn't see anything and the rain started to pour down.. My luck I guess. |

It was cold. Got questioned as I was leaving. No problems. And my exif has the right times. Yeah!

I tried to go too many places in that hour -- I don't think I have anything usable. It was 32 degrees. Cold and sleepy -- I'll look at the shots later. I'm already wondering what landscape I could come up with...

Likewise. Just finished processing and entering it. Got caught in a rainsquall during the making of it; only managed one exposure of the finalized scene, but one turned out to be enough.

That's poetic, sir.
As I posted in the other thread on time problems: I didn't stray very far, which makes for a boring entry but allowed me to catch my mistakes in time. I shot once at 4:15 or so, only to realize once I had returned that the recorded camera time showed 5:15. The clocks had dropped back an hour here in Europe and I hadn't adjusted my camera yet. To be honest I wish I had realized this beforehand and just shot at 3 instead of waiting around an extra hour (I pulled an all-nighter).
So I fiddled with the camera and switched the settings to recognize daylight savings time. I thought that fixed it. I went back out to shoot and returned... and found that the time recorded was now 6 something. 0 for 2 at this point.
I changed the clock settings again (to the correct, actual time, without letting the camera figure it out for me) and shot for a third time, forgetting all the little details that made the shot seem interesting in the first place. So I have a shot with the correct exif data, but it is off the mark from what I had envisioned in the first place. I blame the lack of sleep and the beer that kept me company during said lack of sleep.
But I have an entry, and I look forward to what's sure to be a top-50 performance. It's so boring it's coma-inducing, but maybe that's the right medicine for the 4 to 5 hour. Unless you're a trucker. Don't look at my photo if you are a trucker. |

I'm in......and *really* happy with what I got! Processing went well.
I hope we have more entries coming, but like jeger said, there isn't going to be any 11th hour entries, most likely.

this was pretty easy for me. I work graveyard and my job takes me all over downtown tacoma so it was just a matter of scoping out areas then going to shoot at 4 |

People in Germany know about the "Tacoma Aroma"?! Wow, didn't know it was that famous....of course it's been gone for years now since the paper mills shut down. |

Just a joke, man. I used to live in Seattle, where folks try to make fun of Tac Town, eastsiders and "bridge & tunnel" people in order to distract themselves from their envy of San Francisco and NYC. |

After getting screwed by the clock change here in Europe when I shot Saturday night (I didn't even realize it had changed, being the weekend and all), taking three sets of pics, and now spending some time editing, my damned exif data says 5:03:59. Seriously? Is that a DQ? I suppose that's a DQ. God damned clock change. Not only do I now have to ride my bike home from work in the dark now, but my entry is a DQ. Stupid clock change. |
