Seriously? Is that a DQ? I suppose that's a DQ. God damned clock change. Not only do I now have to ride my bike home from work in the dark now, but my entry is a DQ. Stupid clock change.

No no no. That's no DQ. You could take the shot at 8:30 in the evening and win first place if it's good enough and it won't be a DQ. DQs are for rules infractions, not for not following the challenge description.

Actually, extra rules state that the photo needs to be taken between 4 and 5am..

Then again, it's only a DQ if it requires verification.. :P

Extra Rules: Your entry must be taken between 4:00 am and 5:00 am local time or it will be disqualified.

Yes, I have been alerted that I know nothing of which I speak. Carry on. Ignore the fool...

Well, one could alter the camera clock to side-step the rules. And, one might win with a strategy like that. However, in the larger scheme of things, it would be a shallow victory. Not saying you did any of this. But, sometimes, DPC operates on the honor system. Most good members on DPC, like you, are good enough to play by the rules and not need to do the side-stepping thing. :)

Part of the art of photography is making something appear to be what it isn't... Wouldn't that include creating a picture that appears to be taken at 4:30 in the morning???

Personally though I will be cranky if the winner took the picture during normal hours. I got up 2 mornings in a row to get my shot (I goofed the first morning).

I used to work graveyard. It would be cool if a person who works graveyard won the contest. When you work graveyard you feel separated from everyone else because you are not on their schedule. It would be a just reward.

I might enter it anyway. No one will ask for validation because it won't do well, and I feel I'm in the spirit of the challenge because I'm off by 3 minutes.

Just saving this post for possible future use ... ;-)

Oh, but you misunderestimate the craftiness of the SC. I've had RANDOM requests for validation on images which did not appear to be in any way a violation of the rules...and they were not top 5. For a short time, i was paranoid enough to think had enemies on the SC. But, over time, I came to the conclusion the SC just random validates entries. DQ's carry a real penalty, if you happen to stack two.

Fair enough. Thanks, Richard. I suppose I'd be inviting trouble if I entered it. I do still have an hour tonight here in Germany to both shoot and enter. But that's highly unlikely. Bummer. I feel we Europeans were tricked on this one. What if you North Americans had a time-sensitive challenge the week your clocks flipped?

Almost all validation requests (not including top-five atoumatic requests) come from non-SC members.

Well, we have a time-sensitive election this week, with the voting flipped. Confusing challenge for me. It's a strange period of time... chaos, I think.

Thanks for that insight. Much appreciated! I hope the SC applies common sense to this process. (I'm absolutely sure the SC is a rational, fair, common sense group!) There are some malicious people in the membership. I hope that not all validation requests are responded to.
