The comment and the votes indicate DNMC. I would just comment that "minimalist" is relative and subjective concept. My image is a minimalist landscape and meets the challenge. I like the image very much and I guess it's too bad it has a few interesting elements. Should have pointed the camera at something without shape and form. That said, I'll go vote now with an open mind.

Not a bad welcome for the newbie.

Well, I guess I should have skipped this one. It is a minimalist shot, but it looks like the first 15 voters think it just sucks. I knew it wasn't a winner but I was thinking mid 5's.

You must have scooped the generous ones, no one is being particularly generous with mine... :(

Was cruising high at 6.70 when I got up this morning, then someone came along that really didn't like it.

I didn't enter this challenge.

Is it me or those who entered who don't know what a "minimalist landscape" is? Because I didn't think many were.

I saw quite a few that just seemed to fit the "landscape" part of the description. To be fair, I had a hard time finding a suitable subject for this. We have some great morning fog that comes off the ground in springtime that I could have used if this challenge had been a couple of months earlier. Wasn't as easy in June, but I finally found a good scene.

I'm assuming that there are huge discrepancies in the definition of minimal landscape. I was worried whether mine would qualify, but a couple of others thought I'd be ok. (I received a positive comment from Karen, so I'm guessing I'm ok there, too.)

However, every other vote has been a 5. (meaning, 5,8,5,8,4,7,5,10,5,7 type of stuff)

5s are fine. 8s are great. 10s are awesome. It's just the up and down and up and down that's kind of odd. Usually votes have a tendency to group themselves.

Not a complaint -- just an observation. It's always interesting to see the variety of interpretations.

The funny thing is, I saw some incredible photos in this challenge that I'd consider minimal -- even though they're actually quite busy. Yet there were other photos that were busy that I felt were definitely not minimal. I guess I have to figure out my own definition of minimal before actually voting, so I can figure out why some work and some don't. I thought it would be obvious -- but I'm beginning to think it's much more complex than I had guessed.

It's hard to define for sure. My entry in the last minimalism challenge got slammed for not being minimal enough and it was more minimal (double negative there?) than many of the entries I see in this one. I'm trying hard to see it the way the photographer saw it, but some of them are a tough sell on the minimalism for me.

I gave 2 - 10s, 2 - 9s and 5 - 8s. Some very good images which were minimalist and excellent landscape images.

This was a difficult challenge for me, in terms of scene selection. I'll just accept all the DNMC votes I'm getting and move on to the next challenge. Oh, well!

Leveling off, will be very happy if it stays here.

I haven't voted yet but based on the thumbs it looks like many are not minimalist, IMO.

And the commenters are correct - not very "minimalist". Should study up and read the forum discussion before jumping in. I deserve it, and repent in sackcloth and ashes.

Hopefully it won't brown, though. Don't have one of those...yet.

You could always self DQ. I would on mine, but I did one about 10 challenges back. So I'm stuck with my 4.9x score.

I thought about that...but my overall average needs to include the flubs to be realistic, though, I suppose.

That's always been my thought as well. I never found a self-DQ because of a low score to be honest (especially with one self). But to each his own!

For the most part I keep them in. I do have a habit of entering crappy pictures. But the one I self DQ'd was so bad (I must have been drunk when I submitted it) that I would have had to quite the site and rejoin under a different name.

Evidently, I totally missed this challenge concept. Guess I do not understand "minimalist". It's not the first time a good image of mine has been trashed by the voters. And, it's not the first time I've missed a minimalist-type challenge. I will no longer refer to myself as a Minimalist Landscape Photographer in the future. LOL!!!! I've cancelled my subscription to Minimalist Landscape Magazine.

As I've always said, "DPC participation is a character building experience." I consider my character to have been considerably fortified by this experience. Some good things have happened to my image in the last 18 hours. (I'll post details in the image details section for post voting review.)

I have to admit that I made some comments regarding not being minimal. I studied the subject prior to entering and viewed hundreds of photo's to get an idea of what the concept was. I am open to being wrong...
