I am curious. Do I need to vote at all to keep my membership here? I didn't see anything in the rules? I like to do the open challenges but there is so much pettiness it seems I would rather not be involved in the rest of it...can I do this?

No you don't HAVE to vote, but I would say if your going enter into a contest, you owe it to the others to do your "fair" share.

I've been extremly busy the last few challenges and I have not been able to enter or vote, I know I feel guilty!

Voting is a "common courtesy". If you enter a shot, you should vote. It is only fair that if you are asking for others to score your entry, that you return the favor and score theirs.

You want me to vote on your shots....but your not willing to vote on mine?
By not voting how would that remove you from any pettiness?
We don't know how you voted, but we really hope you do vote.
:)
Please.

I do not vote as much as I like, and I am going to try and vote more, but I do feel duty-bound to vote in any challenge I enter. It just does not feel right to me to do otherwise.

Now I just need to get off my butt and enter more challenges :-)

Do i have to go to work in the morning?
Do i have to take out the trash?
Do have to reply to this thread?

no one has to do anything... its doing it anyway that makes you a decent person.

if you dont like voting - i would advise you enter at another site where they dont rely on the entrants to judge the images.

remember you if you start voting in a challenge you must vote on at least 20% of the images in the challenge (or is 25%) for your vote to count.

voting is good despite the riff raff comments and complaints that happen during and after challenges.

You have to vote. Not only that, you have to comment. Why? Critiquing trains your eye to appreciate style and nuances of different photographers better than just looking at the photographs. It then translates to you taking better photographs because that part of the brain wherever that is that is the 'eye' for a good photograph is more used and sharpened. That is what I believe and that's why you have to vote and critique. Besides, critiquing also improves your language and writing skills especially for those (like me) who are not native English speakers. So there.

I agree that people can be pretty petty sometimes around here. If it bothers you, don't read the forums...
But I think it's only fair that you vote and comment...

Ken, I agree. So, (skillfully steering the thread off course) how are you liking the D70?
