Okay so i want to take those really cool pictures that would take the best luck ever if you didnt use a sound trigger. I looked into buying one but they are really expensive and i read online that you could make one by using an altered amplified mic that outputs to a pc cord and that would work (hiviz.com). I am working on that right now but am not having too much luck. Has anyone else tried this method? Or failed and then did what?

I have never heard of one. What would you use it for?

I found a website with a home made sound trigger. Have not tried it, but have wanted to set one up as well.
The first tip is about the trigger:
//www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/04/22/the-ultimate-photography-round-up/
and this page is linked in it but this is the sound trigger.
//cdn.makezine.com/make/strobephotography.pdf
I could not read all the type on some of the descriptions.
seems like it would work.

go go DPC tutorial challenge!!

What's expensive to you?

You could buy a microcontroller, rig up a microphone and a trigger circuit and then program it, but do you want to do electronics or photography?
