14 miles I think, the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle with 2 sides of 6 and 8 is 7, so each car was 7 miles from the start, and since they were both moving in opposite directions, that 7 is doubled to 14.
Am I right? It's been a good 9 months since I did any Math at school.

That's the answer I got/guessed. It's been 40 years since I did any math at school and I'd forgot all those geometrical laws. Thanks, Louise

the drive in a 3,4,5 proportioned right-triangle, meaning they drove 6, turned 90 degrees and went 8. It's a simple pattern:
3,4,5 is to 6,8,? 10
Bot are 10 miles away from the original positiion, 2x10=20
They were 20 miles apart.
By the way, I was a Visual Philosopher (whatever that means)

Oh yeh, what am I on about? The hypotenuse can't be shorter than another side. I hate maths :P Strange how the IQ test told me I had exceptional mathematical skills, lol

Just use the x^2 + y^2 = z^2 formula for a right triangle.
6*6=36
8*8=64
64+36=100
square root of 100 is 10.

Whee! So true...so true... I'm helping our stage crew teacher design and plan out the sets (you know: "Well, can everyone see that if it's facing such and such direction..." "Can the lights reach it if it's placed here..."). ^_^

Not telling you my score, but to be honest I would not believe the results too much. Don't let this test change your perception of yourself - it is only vaguely correct and is very flattering to the person who takes the test. Only a bit of fun, I suppose.
