Looking at this afternoon's photos, I can see that there is enough dirt on the sensor to replenish most of the muck that has been lost from the Everglades over the last 50 years.

Here's another tip. Since there is no focusing with the pinhole lens, the distance from the pinhole to the sensor is the focal length.

I made one lens from an old lens cap, and another by just putting a piece of tape over the front of the bellows assy that I use with the old Bausch & Lomb/ Zeiss, and made a pinhole zoom. Both were made using "silver" duct tape, and a wire from a wire brush. The diameter of the wire from the brush is .0125 inch.

Sounds like fun and something I've wanted to try with a digital camera. If I capture anything interesting I'll post. Look forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Brian, I followed your instructions to the letter.

Although the process took me more than 1 minute...::stares sheepishly at toes::..to my surprised this actually worked!

I'll post my images in a bit.

::Beams sweetly at Brian::

This is fun...;-)

Haven't used my pinhole for a while, so had a little play on Friday evening. Let's see what today brings.

I will try to see if I can remove the glass and get it down to just the aperture and still get an image at f32.

Here's an update on this. I did find that I could remove both lens elements and get it down to just the aperture with no glass. I tried it at f32, but could not get it to focus at all, as the hole is far too big.
It was pretty easy to make a pinhole in a piece of aluminum tape and just stick it on the front of the bellows, so I did that. I found that I could adjust the focal length with the bellows.
If you have a pinhole lens made from a lens cap, you can try it in combination with an extension tube, bellows, or toilet paper roll tube, piece of pvc pipe, or whatever you have, and gain some focal length.
The results seemed to be pretty much as expected, in that the angle of view is similar to a lens of the same focal length as the distance from the pinhole to the sensor.
As focal length increases though, the apparent aperture becomes much smaller, making it impossible to see anything except highlights on the subject in the viewfinder in daylight, and exposure times increase quite a bit.
It worked better than I thought that it would.

Well Minute Rice doesn't exactly cook in a minute either. Wonderful job!

I have too many to post...

Don't forget the world thingee - it is for both film and digital - I had thought it was only film at first.

Here's one more item for the DSLR people.
In order to see better when composing, it helps to turn the camera off, so you don't have all the light from the bright heads-up display in the viewfinder competing with the faint light of the image there. This is a good trick to use when shooting with normal lens and equipment at night as well.
It's easy to see why the old view camera photographers used the dark cloth when setting up their shots.

If one more drunken Musical festival person told me I'd forgotten to put a lens on the camera I may have swung for them ;)

Gotta love the weight with just a pinhole lens.

Spent the day creating my pinhole lens, and the afternoon spot editing the crap off the images. I think I should have cleaned it better before trying it out, lots of leftover plastic dust from the sanding... :|

Pinholes have an interesting problem shooting directly into the sun. At least mine does!
