I voted 3rd party Andre Marrou and ended up with Bill Clinton. Learned my lesson.
The person is not the objective of the vote. The party is. There are certain ideas that are safeguarded by the party - such as abortion rights by democrats and gun rights by republicans. Certainly ther are some candidates that differ from the party but on the whole - a vote for a democratic presidential candidate is a vote for keeping abortion and a vote for a republican candidate is for keeping guns. If you don't like guns and like abortion then vote democratic. If you prefer unions and the principles upon which they were founded then vote democratic. If you think it takes a village to raise a child versus a pair of responsible parents then the democtaric candidate is for you.
Romney and Obama are merely figure heads for the key interests of each party. And when you are for abortion and for safeguarding gun rights, then you need to look at other key interests in the party. In the end, you have a choice between x's and y's and which party supports the majority of key points for you.
No third party vote for me this year. |

All the lifetime polititions would be out. How many State and Federal Congressmen and Representatives have been in office 20, 30, 40 years? Less time to become millionares on our money. A new face in the office every 8 years would not be the only answer but its a step in the right direction.

In California we passed term limits two decades ago. Since then the state has suffered from the rise in power of lobbyists and adherence to party doctrine has become even more rote. Our legislature is more broken. Our state is deeper in debt. We have taken power out of the hands of long time legislaturists who could broker deals across the isle through personal relationships, and given the power to party hacks and moneyed interests.
BTW you have to be a millionaire to run for office as it is. I could count the number of non millionaires elected to Congress on two hands.

One of the reasons that Cali is broke...over-regulation. However, that is caused mostly inpart by the lobbyist...a lot of whom are environmentalist

If you think there are more lobbyists who are pushing environmental concerns than are pushing anti environmental concerns (farming, power, water, mining, manufacturing, transport, logging, fishing, ect.) you are off by a factor of about twenty.
There is far more money in getting rid of regulations over pesky things like non toxic air and water . |

I would be willing to bet that if we sat down for a beer we would agree on a whole lot more things that we agree on here in rant land. Here I have a bad habit of disagreeing by reflex, just for the sport of it.

How is over-regulation or regulation even, caused by the lobbyist?
What evidence do you have to support this claim?
What evidence exists to support the claim that most lobbyists are environmental? And what is an "environmental lobbyist" anyway?
I would apologise for these questions, but I want you to do is share more information with us, which may mean you must do a bit of research. I can see from your many posts that you want to participate in these discussions fully, but you are falling short of the mark if you want your arguments to carry weight.
Lots of other people also make bald assertions without support, and their arguments are equally weightless. Don't you want to be better than that? |

What is the difference? Rant is just for spewing verbal diarhea and hoping others like it? Why not make it something useful? Why can't I try to help cowboy make a stronger argument?
Questions are fun, as are answers. I say this is a forum where we talk about things that aren't photography. It is called rant out of convenient shorthand. What say you? |

I think what she's getting at is that even by posting that, without any correlating data from both sides or any other information to tie it into the 'debate' at hand, you are doing nothing more than cowboy ever does.
That link doesn't 'prove' anything or even go towards showing a point of any kind. |

Spewing verbal diarhea, hoping others like it,trying (really?) to help cowboy, not calling it a rant out of convenient short hand? |

It's mostly a rant. There hasn't been much in here to call it a debate, whatsoever, but that doesn't mean it can't BECOME a debate. Some people don't seem to see the harm in trying to push it in that direction.
Personally, I like the rants. They are amusing and keep me entertained. Debates bore the hell out of me. |

He's right. Also, cowboy hasn't told me that my responses to him are unwanted -- only you've told me that you don't care for the attention I am paying him and you suspect me of some hidden agenda of which I have none. I am not belittling him or his opinions, though you continually insult me with your lurid accusations. Ever read MacBeth, Doc? learn about the theories of Dr. Freud? I think you're accusing me of doing something that YOU do, but I am not you and I don't act like you. Your interjection in my questions to cowboy have stripped him of his voice; back off and let him reply or tell me to take a hike, whichever suits him.
