I submitted my first picture ever in the Rust challenge (i'm a total newbie to both photography and the challenges). I recieved some criticism on how small my picture was, but during uploading the max file size allowed was 150k. What gives? I would have posted a larger version, but the site wouldn't allow it, so now I'm being penalized for it. Am I missing something here?

If you have Photoshop or Elements you could use "Save as Web" and get a decent shot at 150k or below.

Make the largest size to 640 pixels and move the quality bar toward the left until it goes under 150k.

You can submit and resubmit until the deadline so you can check the image on the site before finalizing.

Yeah, almost every photo you see is set at the max of 640 pixels wide or tall. And, none are over 150k. Just use photoshop to save as web :)

Good luck!

The trick is picking a compression rate and a size that gives you best image quality for the viewer.

You can size your photo as large as 640x640.

Thanks for the advice folks. I tried resizing my picture in Photoshop and it appears to have worked. Looks like it's too late for this challenge though :(
I think my submission is final so no more changes.

I have the sam problem but now I know better. Maybe the information about doing this in photoshop should be shown with the rules for the cahllenge!
´But next time we will know how to do this!

I saw some great photos that were small in the Rusted challenge, and I actually voted a couple of them very highly. Sometimes the small resolution is enough to judge by, so I do try to take that into account. Sorry your score had to suffer for something that has nothing to do with the quality of your photo, though!
