Boston.com's The Big Picture has photos.
#30 has the greatest impact to me - the woman helping, she's rendering aid, despite clearly having at least one shrapnel injury.

Yes to all three. Of course there are. Do you want to see them ? Too bad.
These images were released to solicit more information from witnesses, not to satisfy the curiosity of the rest of us. The FBI is trying to catch killers and build a case, not provide popular entertainment. If they release all the information they had, it would taint the pool of witnesses. They need people who can expand on the tapes, and they need to know that anyone who comes forward is legitimate, and they can do that by checking their story against what is on the tapes which they are not going to be releasing. I'm sure some will see it as some sort of conspiracy or the government hiding something, but that is how they catch the bad guys.
Oh, and Cory ask your Syrian or Iranian friends if they are Arabs. You might be surprised. Not all those Middle Eastern Muslim types are Arabs. Arabs come from Arabia. Most Syrians are Levantine as are Lebanese, Palestinians, and Jordanians. Racially they have more in common with Greeks and Italians than they do with Arabs. Speaking Arabic makes you as much an Arab as Speaking English makes you an Englishman. So while I agree they guys in the tape could be Syrian, they are a far cry from the "dark skinned Arab" that was the suspect yesterday

Police have shot and killed one of the suspects, the other is still at large.
Boston bombing suspects
Edit- One policeman killed, one seriously injured in this on-going situation.

Which part of Syria do you think the guy on the left is from?

My hometown is in a lockdown as they look for the 2nd bombing suspect. I have a lot of family in Waltham and Watertown, including my parents. I have a cousin who lives around the corner from Kenmore Sq in Boston where SWAT team is right now. What a crazy morning, I'll be happy when all this is over and this 2nd bomber is caught, hopefully alive, so we can find out why they did this.

as we found out yesterday, it already has. the media gets their news from internet. as we saw yesterday the media outlets are so desperate to to feed our hunger they resort to internet sleuthing and plastering the face of an innocent all over their front page.
maybe its best we leave the hearsay and rumors to twitter and the internet and hold the real media to report the facts. |

let me pose this question, i dont know the answer, its only to stir debate.
do we need to know? should we know? should anyone know?
yes those were injured and died for no reason. but is that a bad thing? these two guys, if both are killed will have performed all this to further no cause.
i'd like the remaining perpetrator to be able to tell authorizes if this is some sort of larger plot, but im not so sure we really ought to need know their cause.

Oh yeah, well spotted.
Anyway, more specifically, Dagestan (Chechnya) was mentioned... Got this from Wikipedia;
"Dagestan has been a scene of low-level Islamic insurgency, occasional outbreaks of separatism, ethnic tensions and terrorism since the 1990s. According to International Crisis Group, the militant Islamist organization Shariat Jamaat is responsible for much of the violence.[16] Much of the tension is rooted in an internal Islamic conflict between traditional Sufi groups advocating secular government and more recently introduced Salafist teachers preaching the implementation of Sharia law in Dagestan." |

It probably is important where they are from, now that we know.
Its probably a bit naive to think that these guys wouldn't be from a certain area, and most likely a certain religious profile as well, given the type of "street terrorism" that occurred. Its awful but we knew they wouldn't be from Peru, for instance.

Ann, I take it that you don't hang out with young folks from the middle east much?

Still, hard as hell to really know much from grainy surveillance photos. |
So I take it you *do* hang out with Syrians a lot? Otherwise, why make a personal comment like that? |
Actually yeah. I do - have a lot of middle eastern friends, ranging from Libya to Syria, to Iran and the UAE. And these guys could be cousins or brothers with a few of them.
And that's not to imply that middle easterners are the only shitheads who do this, or anything of that nature, the guys just DO look to be of potential middle eastern descent, and a Syrian I know looks like this kid's older brother, olive complexion, same nose profile, and curly mid-length black hair. So, I promise, not just being a silly ignorant racist. :) |
Pffft - Silly ignorant racist. |

Another two bombs have gone off!!!!
31 killed on Monday,
23 Killed today..
It was in Baghdad though, just wondered why that didn't get its own thread?
Terrorism and killing aint real until its on your own doorstep I suppose. Those damn Iraqis are not real people anyway so it's not really news I guess.
It's a bit like 9/11 when all those New Yorkers who had for years popped their `dimes` and `nickels` into those NORAID tins on street corners & started crying and screaming over those nasty nasty cowardly terrorists - although they had been supporting the IRA for years.
Karma can be a bitch sometimes.
But makes great headlines!! |

Huffington Post news has some pretty good updates to this story, including a link (sorry I'm being too lazy to find it myself) to a heartbreaking phone interview with the uncle of the two young men. Weird how the reporter is the one to inform the family that their one nephew is dead and the other on the run. |

There's nothing worth addressing.
Are you upset that people are talking about the Boston bombings in the Boston bombing thread? Is that disproportionate to the horrors that are occurring simultaneously in this world? Does it lack perspective? You should see the other threads... people are talking about camera equipment and taking photos.
Discussion of an event is of no indication whatsoever of anything else. No belief system, no ideological stance, nothing. And yet you are here drawing the conclusion that discussion of this event is an indication of ignorance to other events that you feel we should be talking about.
Could you please provide us with a flow chart of topics that we can talk about, so we can properly begin with the most important?
But of course your entire point has the foundation of a bitterness toward the US and US foreign policy, and for this you trot out an immature argument on a message board and even use the word karma to talk about the actions being discussed.
You've displayed the greatest lack of perspective of all. |
