i rented a couple bodies from borrowlenses.com to use this weekend, and schedule the delivery for yesterday (friday). they arrived at the richmond hub thursday afternoon, but it appears that ups won't be able to get them to me until monday. awesome.

i was stuck at the house all day yesterday, waiting and constantly being reassured by ups that they would make the delivery by 7pm last night.

just got off the phone with ups and i'm totally screwed on this.
they're closed on weekends and you can't get anything unless you had already scheduled a saturday delivery.
they *used to* have local phone numbers at their terminals, but in a cost-saving, "customer quality control" effort, they got rid of all those lines and opted for a single number for the entire operation.
what really sucks is that the folks at borrowlenses.com were willing to fedex overnight with saturday delivery the camera bodies, in order to make up for ups's piss-poor handling; unfortunately, because ups took so much time giving us a run-around as to where the package actually was, they didn't have enough time to get another package out to fedex. it's nice to know that some companies are willing to go the extra mile.
i'm pretty sure i'll only use ups in the future if there is absolutely no other option. |

So sorry to hear.
The weather is so crappy this weekend - any chance the shoot will be rescheduled?

nah, it's an indoor concert at the national. i can handle it as i have in the past, but have enjoyed the bigger sensor and higher iso that comes on the 5dmk3. |

What lenses? Where do you live? Send PM if you feel more comfortable. but it appears to be somewhere in VA.

Never use them if I don't have to. |

thanks for the thought! it was actually a couple 5D Mark III bodies. now, if you have a couple of those laying around, i'll make the drive ;-)
@tangy, i feel the same way.
oddly enough (and totally off-topic), i'm shooting a benefit concert for a guy i met because of dpc...
he's the subject of this photo
which i shot for the first music challenge back in oct '04. on the drums was a friend of mine i had lost touch with and hadn't seen for nearly 15 years. thanks to that challenge and that pic, we've stayed connected and that has led to many of my music gigs and performer/band clients. unfortunately, the subject of this pic, billy ray hatley, was diagnosed with a form of dementia a few years ago and can no longer perform. his former band mates (he had two different bands) have rounded up a bunch of other performers and they're putting on a concert for him, playing his songs. i'm handling the photography just as a way of saying thanks (it's that karma thing).
so, it will be a great show and i'm sure i'll get some nice stuff, but, no thanks to ups, i don't think i'll be getting exactly what i wanted... |

A few years ago I missed delivery of a 70-200 F2.8 IS on a Friday night. I went directly to the depot and talked directly to the guy in charge in the delivery- receiving area. Even though I had to wait for about a hour for the truck to return they allowed me to receive my package there. |

Ha, ha! I scanned the topic list and read "Heating up at the moment." Wishful thinking. |

Gee, Richard, we are finally above zero. It's a balmy 6 degrees outside now. Yesterday it made it up to 8 for about 15 minutes. Windchill is still way below zero. We are the banana belt of Colorado. I can't even imagine how cold it is where you are.... (((((shivers))))))
Back on topic.... the last 8 of 10 packages I have received from the USPS have been damaged/opened and damaged/smashed. When I call to complain or go in to complain I get the shoulder shrug or denial that they were in any responsible (this from the postmistress). Fact is they don't bloody care. What does it say when we much PREFER UPS???? Several years ago, I even had a lens "lost" in transit from B&H I needed for my son's graduation in another state. B&H had guaranteed delivery and made it good with another lens sent FedEx overnight. The original lens finally came while we were out of state. The postal delivery person signed for it herself and left it by our front gate. Fortunately it was still there when we got home and I was able to get it sent back... but really????
I can't wait for Amazon's drones....
Skip, I hope all goes well for your concert. It's a good thing you are doing. I'm sorry you've had the added stress. Karma goes both ways. It's just taking a long time to catch up with the USPS here.... UPS better watch out.

the show was incredible, the photos...still going through them. i can tell you it was a lot more work than it would have been with the bodies that were still at the terminal.
ups finally showed up this afternoon. the driver just smiled when i told him why i was rejecting delivery. |

The UPS part still sucks, but the karma/DPC story is awesome. Well done, Skip |
