I haven't really been on here much the last couple of years, but I have noticed that when I'm looking through challenge entries lately, no one seems to posts anything about the settings anymore. What is up with that? I always found that a helpful guide, and I'm sure others did as well. Wasn't that a requirement at one time? Not sure that I like all of the changes since I've been away. |

It's never been a requirement. I agree it would be helpful if more people did this.
I (almost) always post the camera settings and a summary of the editing steps, and also encourage others to do so -- this is supposed a site where we learn from each other ...
In the meantime, welcome back -- enter some challenges, make some comments, try to have fun and make the site more like you'd like it to be! |

If an image is "saved for web" it strips that info off of the image and has to be entered manually.
If not, the info is automatically entered with no action on the photog's part.
Welcome back. |

Give and you shall receive.... exif, comments, entries..... well that's what I was taught.
So I try to remember to fill in the exif because i like to learn from others. |

Guess it's been a looooong time. Thanks for the quick replies, you guys are always the best. Been a rough year, divorce and all the fun that comes with that and then all my old gear was stolen. Just got a D7100 and a couple of lenses and anxious to get back into it. |

I always used to but I tend not to these days as I primarily use manual lenses for which the aperture is not recorded on my current cameras and I don't tend to write it down. |

Heck, you ought to have a pretty good idea on aperture just from remembering the shoot? Ballpark would be fine... |

Is it wrong for me to think that generally the 'ballpark' is pretty obvious, or if it's not obvious, then it's probably not important? Or is that me just being too familiar with this stuff?

I used to think it was required, so I did it. Then I found it easier not to bother. For nature shots, it was pretty much wide open, as fast a shutter speed I could get keeping it under 800 ISO.
I never really realized that people actually looked at it.
My new year's resolution will be to put those in again. It's not that big of a deal to look it up in bridge. |

Thanks vawendy. Glad to see you are still around plus some other familiar faces. But everything seems so different here lately :-( I didn't realize that once I disappeared everything would fall apart ;-) |

It's hard to provide that info when everyone is making digital composites. ;) |

I always keep the data and it's automatically posted with the entry upload. I do not enter the location for personal reasons, but will usually answer if asked.
I also look at others settings. |

I don't think it's expected for expert editing. |

Welcome back. |
There is a Metadata combo box in the Save for Web and Devices window. If you select All it will record the EXIF data (Copyright as well) into your new file. Then it will all get entered automatically like Tiberius said when you upload.
