OK, here is an idea for a challenge -- Take a picture of a mature elm tree, and only a tree in a neatly mown yard in front of a 2 story colonial white house with black shutters. Take the picture between noon and 1 pm. from due west at exactly 38.7 ft away. Frame the tree to the left third of the photo with the house to the right. Crop to a 1/4 in border of space around edge. Set your iso and speed to...etc. etc.

Too funny, taterbug! ROFLMAO! (but the sad thing is that some folks would actually enjoy that as a challenge, methinks!) :o)

Everybody that entered....kudos...pat yourselves on the back.

I agree- this is the best open challenge I have voted on! I gave out a lot more 7's and 8's than usual and only a single 3 with nothing below. I expect I will revise some of my votes up over the rest of the week as I study them some more.

IMHO there aer alot of great shots in this one and one that is almost perfect. Come on people there is more wheat than chaff here. just out of curiosity whould this show multiple light scources ckearly enough or do most folk think the scources had to be visible?

I think it would do quite well, at least using my interpretation of the challenge. I've always liked that shot; it's one of the first ones I ran across when I joined DPC (if memory serves correctly). I'd give it a 7 or 8 for sure. You're right about the number of great shots in this challenge; I've been voting tonight and have come across some very well-done shots. I like the subtlety in a number of them, and the blatency (if that's a word) of others. It's been fun to vote! :o)

This bike picture is a good example of something I was curious about. Is there tutorial on generating colored shadows? Or is the answer so easy that I should know already?

Thanks

I just tinted three peices of clear plastic with red, green and blue sharpies markers and held them over my flash head. Opened up the shutter and tripped the flash, change color and move a bit, repeat.

I think that as long as more than one light source is used the challenge is met. Your picture clearly has multiple light sources and would easily qualify. Nice image by the way. ;0)

Okay, I just finished voting on the Multiple Light Sources. I still need to go in and add more comments, but I must say, I am thrilled with some of the great photos, but so disappointed with many other photos. I guess the better some are, the worse others are. Normally, I feel that the challenges are pretty good, but some photos really stand out, and only a few are not really with it. I guess with so many standing out, I see a lot more photos that I am voting low on.

I am not voting these down because I can't really tell, but it seems that there are quite a few photos with only 1 light source: the sun, or fluorescent lighting, etc. I see many replicated light sources: candles or a row of the same light fixture over and over... technically, it counts, but I was hoping for some more creativity with the multiple sources idea. I am really confused by the silhouettes though. How are those mulitple sources? Please explain so I can better understand...
