Terrific photographs and a strong accompanying essay. Sitting and standing in a field, for example, for a few hours a day, for a few years, would serve as well as or better than any diploma.

Thanks for the linkie. It's an interesting read. In my younger years, very little in The New Yorker made any sense to me, now I find I'm reading it & enjoying it. :D
I'm wondering what a similar study involving humans would reveal. You know, set up a place to sit, to rest, in solitude where there are no other places to sit & set up a hidden motion-activated camera to capture the sitters. Would the photographs reveal anything new about humans? You may say that's what candid portraits/street photographers are doing but I wonder because on some level people are always aware of the camera in the hand of another person & because these photographs are always captured in public where people have a game face of some kind on. I wonder if people look different when they are alone. |
