My card is corrupt.

My card reader used to see one folder (out of two) on it. I chose to "scan and fix" from my computer. When I open the one directory it is empty. The other directory is completely gone.

I put it in my camera and it says "no image".

Help!!!

The little gray thing (write protect switch) on the side is gone, too (but after the trouble happened).

SanDisk Extreme Pro 32 gb

Now the camera says "Card's write protect switch is set to lock" (but it's missing).

Help!

I am not remotely qualified to help with this problem, but it's the internet! I would try a pin or phone SIM-card-eject thingamajigger to try to slide the card lock into the unlock position.

Good ideas! Thank you!

The card lock thing fell out and I can't find it.

I've ordered a new sd card (for delivery tomorrow), which I will try to mangle the slide lock thing out of it and put it into the damaged card.

My concern is that the damaged card didn't work even when it was unlocked. Missing files.

I am not qualified either but I totally feel your pain! I lost a whole external drive full of photos once and never could figure out how to get them back. That hurt!

Thank you!

I searched and found that all I have to do to replace the unlock slider is to put a piece of tape on it, which I have done.

So, that's fixed, but... it still doesn't have any files.

Ok... now I used the tape over the write switch, used the computer CMD mode (found on internet) to diagnose the problem.

It is now telling me:

C:\Users\theon>chkdsk d:/f
The type of the file system is FAT32.
Volume EOS_DIGITAL created 10/1/2022 4:44 PM
Volume Serial Number is 1901-1056
Windows is verifying files and folders...
File and folder verification is complete.

Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems.
No further action is required.
31,154,688 KB total disk space.
64 KB in 2 hidden files.
128 KB in 4 folders.
365,600 KB in 78 files.
30,788,864 KB are available.

32,768 bytes in each allocation unit.
973,584 total allocation units on disk.
962,152 allocation units available on disk.

This means it's wiped, right?

Is there any hope?

4 folders, 78 files.

Hmm. Not much size to those files though.

I'm supposed to have eight months of photos on there.

Many thousands of images.

365Mb. That's not nothing.

File recovery software?

Thank you for caring! I really appreciate it.

Does anyone have software they recommend for uncorrupting SD cards?

Ping Wendy. She went thru this recently.

I didn't have much luck. There are a lot of recovery programs, some that are really good, but they all seem to cost a stupid amount of money. :(

THank you, Wendy.

Did you try any of the free ones?

I think a few years ago SanDisk packaged recovery software with some of their cards (maybe a coupon for a free download). You might try going to their site and see if they (or other users) has a suggestion or recommendation for a fix.

Please tell me you don't go "months" without copying files from your card to other media ...

What he said... You can't count on cards to hold & protect images. That's why the good Lord created external storage for us. You can buy an external, USB 4TB External Drive for around 100 bucks these days. Much less for smaller ones.
