After several months and many hours of labor, I finally have this photo ready! Sorry for glorifying myself, but I worked really hard!
Now what needs to be done to it?

Maybe, make it available for print so people can enjoy it without loging to DPC? :) |

A print has been submitted, but the image of the print isn't great, so I'm wondering if weird things are happening. Has that happened to anyone? The web version looks great, the print looks great, but the image of the print on DPCPrints looks distorted?

First of all, let me echo what everyone else has said - that's a really great shot, David.
About the DPC distortion, I've noticed that DPC seems to automatically display each picture in a fixed size based on the dimensions of the image. It seems to reduce the size of the printable file by a certain percentage and display that reduced image, rather than just using the smaller image that you've uploaded to DPC. I could be wrong, but that might account for the distortion.

Are you talking about the auto-resizing thing David? I found recently, when I uploaded orint files for some of my 'views from home' series, that the thumbnails were terrible - because what you see on dpc prints is actually the site-resized image, and not your original web sized upload. Did that make any sense?

Right, I think that's what I was trying to say. Hopefully, between the two of us it makes sense. :-)

Other than resizing and USM, does your print workflow differ significantly from your DPC/web workflow? In particular, are you doing any color space conversion for the target DPC print device?
Perhaps DPCprints is being much too aggressive with its compression for the print preview. If they're going to resize the original, they should at least let us know what the parameters are, so we can preview at home first to see how bad it'll get. Perhaps this will be changed with the upcoming changes to DPCprints. |

Yes, Phillip, Ed, and Dale. I'm sure that DPCPrints is just resizing my print for web showing, which is causing the distortion.
Interesting note about workflow, too. For a print, I've got to reduce noise, and I usually go in and, depending on the situation, do a piecemeal approach with a blur or clone tool, especially close to other objects. In the case of the above shot, it's a night shot and so full of noise. I had to blur the general sky, then clone close to the tree and rock formation. I'll have to see whether the print will be accepted. It looks great on my computer, but ...

I'm pretty sure they only look at the printable version when approving a photo. I can't imagine this one having any trouble. Happy sales to you!
