Hi all...
It would be great if we could all get together for a day out and meet. Maybe in the next month or 2 somewhere senic with picnic facilities!
What do you all think! Know any good places?

Hi Bob,
Sounds good to me. I don't know anywhere on the Fraser Coast but I hear it's pretty damn good up there. At this stage I would be a couple of Months away from being able (hopefully less). It would be a blast to meet up with some fellow Aussie DPCers.

Sounds great, I will need to check dates though. I am getting married at the end of my life *cough* the year so things are hectic at the moment. If you can throw some dates out there I can see what I can do. I love the Fraser Coast.

Wow...
Didn't expect a response or at least this so quick! How does the school holidays sound? Is that good for everyone? Weekend of 25th/26th September or 2nd/3rd of October!
Is a weekend the go or would you prefer just a day trip, seeing you guys are from Brisbane Maybe a Sunny Coast destination would suit more?
Idea's are most welcome as you guys kinda caught me by surprise.

I'm cool for either of those weekends at the moment - possibly just for a day trip though. The most I've seen north of Brissy is Kondalilla NP and the Glasshouse Mtns. I'll have to consult my book of cool places to take photos and post a suggestion or two. Gimme a couple of days - Let's pool some thoughts and go from there - plenty of time.

Ok been to the Tourist information Centre and got me a pile of information to wade through...
I do know a nice little place (very peacefull) that is on the water of the Great Sandy Straights (Look over the water to Fraser Island), has picnic areas and a national park surrounds it. Quiet little spot about 3/4 hour from Gympie on the coast just north of Tin Can Bay but not sure about bush walks or anything there.

Ok I'm going to put the Town of Maryborough forward as a surgestion.
Maryborough is one of the oldest towns in Queensland, it was once the only port of Queensland. It has many historical buildings and has been used in the past for the making of historical movies. A nice park with rotunda and a river with walkway along side it and all within 5 minutes walking from each other.
Saturday 25th September Events:
Maryborough Harness & Saddle Pleasure Club Inc
For all carriage drivers up to the age of 35 years
On Sunday 26th September there will be:
Maryborough Harness & Saddle Pleasure Club Inc
For all carriage drivers up to the age of 35 years.
Venue - Maryborough Showgrounds 10 minute drive from Town.
Plus:
Model Engineers & Live Steamers Association (MELSA)
Miniature Steam Train Rides combined with brass band and Riverside Markets. Hot food and refreshments available.
All have great photo opportunities! Plus food and drinks available!
Saturday 2nd October Events
Maryborough Masters Games
(2 - 3 October 2004)
Mature aged competition covering many sports
Sunday 3rd October Events
Maryborough Masters Games
(2 - 3 October 2004)
Mature aged competition covering many sports
For me the pick would be Sunday 26th as the miniture trains are really quite amazing to see and are located again in the same area as everythig else 5 minutes walk!
There is a river but no beach at Maryborough maybe we could do that next time!

Hi Bob, being a new member ( 30min old!) from Bris, Qld and glad to see your and other posts here. The event you mentioned below seems to be fun. Cheers Jim

G'day Jim and welcome to dpc!
I gotta say it kinda stunned me that there were so many replies to my post. My "Outlaws" live in Hervery Bay and they are members so I thought it would be more of a family picnic under the guise of a DPC day out!
I hope you can make it up here, it will be great to see the people behind the names!

G'day Bob. I had a quick flip through my little book and would love to see Tin Can Bay, but your suggestion seems just as good. To be honest I'm in the throws of getting the house ready for sale and haven't had much time to think photography lately - a bit slack, I know :).
Bear with me though, I've got this week off work and should be able to spare some time to put forward some more options.

Tin Can Bay is a lovely little spot.
There is a small marina with slow flowing tidal water and views over the water to Fraser Island. A Cafe and a few shops. A Golf Club and caravan park etc, house boats for hire.
The one big plus for Tin Can Bay is the wild dolphins USUALLY come in to feed. They can be hand fed anywhere from 8am - 10am its up to them when and if they come in for a feed.
It would be a good choice!
