I didn't like it enough at first though; I didn't think of selective desaturation until after the deadline had passed.

Do you think it would be doing better than my current entry (sitting at 4.1)?

very cool shot! I think it would have done well!

It is a very nice image and desaturation looks in right place, but I don't remember desaturation to be a part of basic editing.

I thought anything that affected the whole image was allowed - all I did was go into the "Hue - Saturation" adjustment and turn down the saturation on green, cyan and yellow. (This is in the Gimp, procedure / menu item name may be slightly different under Photoshop)

Yep,you're right, it is allowed in basics. Went and check Konador tutorial. Sorry.

very interesting image...I bet it would have done well in the challenge...I think the desat works very will with it. :o)
