What's the re-election rate for republicans, other then Thompson, in WI? Hell, what is the % of any republican winning an election in WI? If you are going to pull stats, please pull relevant stats.

My point is, the right person can get anyone to vote for them. He won an election and got re-elected a few times, by a very left leaning state. My Dad, the worlds most democrat man, voted for him!

And by the way, I don't think it's fear of change, I think it's thinking they made the right decision the first time.

"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves elected President should under no account be aloud to do the job."

I tend to believe that the riches, self confidence, and in many cases arrogance, required to push yourself to the highest seat in the land pretty much puts you out of contention to do a truly good job at it.

"The problem with the world is that ignorant and bigoted people are so sure of themselves, and thoughtful people are so full of doubts."

I hope this is not too righteous, but I think it's sad that we'd have to resort to either a fine or a tax break to get people to do what is at once a privilege and a duty, that is: participate in our electoral process.

I mean, people have literally given their lives so that we have a say in what our government does; and, in other countries, people look to the U.S. for inspiration. It seems to me that the least we can do is vote.

Just so you know my suggestion was not out of self-interest, I have voted in every ekection (save one special Community College District director election) since 1970, when I registered and voted for a Republican, Pete McCloskey.

Tommy Thompson (R) was gov of Wisconsin forever. Wisconsin is probably the most democrat state around. It was the only state where Mondale beat Reagan!!!

Close but no cigar. Your neighbor to the west, Minnesota, was the only state that went for Mondale in `84. WI is not even considered a Democratic state but rather a swing, or battleground, state, as in it could go either way. It has gone to Rebuclicans in 7 of the last 13 elections in cluding Reagan twice, Ike twice and Nixon three times. Many in WI think of their state as liberal, or progressive, but those are dreams of yesteryear when Bill Proxmire and Bob LaFollette ruled. There is a Democratic island based around the university in Madison, and remnants of party strength in some of the bigger cities along the lake between Chicago and Milwaukee, places like Racine and Kenosha where heavily unionized industrial plants were common up until the 60's. WI's congressional delegation is 4-4 in the House but both Senators are Dems. Last time I was there I remember driving on a major highway in the central part of the state and seeing lagre signs, billboards, with slogans like "Keep our town union-free" and "Pregnant? Need help? Call 1-800-xxx xxxx for an alternative to abortion". Sorry louddog. WI is hardly a Democratic state let alone being the "most democrat state around".

BTW, Tommy is coming home. It has been widely leaked, and not denied, around Washington that he is leaving the cabinet even if Bush is re-elected. He claims he told Bush he was only signing on for 4 years when he took the job but the White House says that is not true. But mark my words, either way, Tommy is coming back to WI in 2005. Better get ready.
