Thanks for that! It's kind of a relief, but I remember them as being called something else from my childhood - I've no idea what now though. |

Breakwaters - that's the one I recall!!! You're a star sir.
But it looks like they're called groynes too - if you search for them on Google image search anyway, which also throws up the rocks you mentioned.
Edit: thanks also to those who bothered responding to such a banal request. : )
