ok ok, I know I have issues here
I bought a Oly c310 (US=d540) because it was small enough to take everywhere, after realising how much I used it, I wanted something even smaller and more descrete (I like street photography) so I bought a Sony U30. However, I could not bare to leave behind my Oly, so I carried 2 cameras with me, recently I bought my Panasonic FZ2, planning on only taking it out when I needed it - big mistake, now I carry all 3 cameras, a small tripod, a mini tripod and a 'toolkit' - I think I need to talk to someone.

Pretty much everytime, at work, when visiting family and friends. I bring my backpack and monopod/tripod too. My backpack is heavy, just a little over 20lbs. (see my profile for what's in the bag).
My camera though is always in the bag. The few times that I actually used it when a photo op just presented itself quickly, I was able to yank it out of the bag to take some snaps.
Maybe I should start taking my little olympus c-730uz with me too.

Always have the 10D with me, even when I just need to go to the corner shop. You just never know.... my favourite image was taken whilst waiting for an Indian takeaway. There is always something to shoot if you look hard enough. |

My camera is too big, but I plan on eventually getting a sony T1 so that it can slide right in my pocket, and I'll be taking it everywhere. |

I know that feeling, the hardest thing for me too and i'm so tired of it is to answer all the time the questions why am I always photographing something, and carry a camera, and why did they saw me hanging from a tree upside down, and why did they saw me walking in the getto's (the most interesting place for me the most uninteresting for them) and such... Lately I tell them I have some conspiracy theory and I'm photographing clues. LOL Imagine how weird to I look hehe :))

that's it, I'm going to try new and interesting reasons to justify the case... I think the government is following me and I need to get proof.. I saw an alien and I never got proof.. the Giant Moa isn;t extinct. anything random.. hmmmm the voices told me to. god told me to...
off out soon to get some dinner and try to spot something intersting to shoot... hmmm maybe I should tell them I like to shoot things, and guns kill and apparently thats bad. |

"When do I carry my camera?"
When it is not on a tripod. :D
Ok, Ok, I know that wasn't funny, but seriously I take it with me when I can. Since I walk most anywhere I go I leave it at home when it is likely to rain. I also don't have it with me going to work, while at work or coming home. Like I said, I walk, and no cameras allowed at work. I think they are afraid of industrial spies or something; but that is just silly, they would give a tour to any competitor that wanted one.
So it ends up being mainly on the weekends, but when I do carry it I have it on a monopod, tripod across my back and an extra set of batteries in a belt pouch along with the polarizer.

The camera is too heavy and valuable to carry with me all the time so it's generally just if we're travelling, going away for the weekend or visiting somewhere that I think might be particularly good inspiration for photos.
That doesn't mean I don't come across times when I see something I want to take and wish I had it with me though...

Hi.
I feel kinda nekid right now. This is the first time since I got the camera I do not have it with me. Up until now I have only parted with the camera when I take a really really quick shower.

Most of the time - I kept missing way too many opportunities by not having it with me.

Always, I keep a cooler in my car to store the camera in to protect the camera and lens from the heat. |

I guess I'm in the minority in this thread since I only carry my camera if I'm actually planning on taking pictures.

If I owned a $4500 dollar camera body I doubt seriously that I would let it out of my sight :-) |

I dunno.. I can see the opposite point of view as well.. if I owned a $4500 camera, I wouldn't exactly want to be hauling it around everywhere either.. the chance of damage would be exponentially increased.
Of course.. if I could afford a $4500 camera.. I could probably *also* afford a nice little $300 - $500 camera for carrying around everywhere.

That's what insurance is for. A lot of peace of mind, only $30/year.
