I am also guilty of the rather cliche comments. Most of my comments are for the pictures I like. Rarley do I comment on a photo I am not fond of. |

I need to make a few more comments I think, just to bring the ratio up to evens.

Kind of a curious ratio. I find that as I make more comments, I have become better at summarizing my impressions. I will admit that as often as not, I will say "nice photo" or some benign comment to at least let the photographer know that I appreciate the time they put into their photo. |

I seem to be a magnet for comments and low votes. Despite opinions I find comments rewarding but mostly the freedom to express. Being new to the digital art form I find technical prowess appreciated by most voters. My recent submission on poverty even had one voter double visiting with a total of 24 comments. The image was never perceived as intended from the point of view of an individual so hungry they had blurred vision and were colapsing of hunger under the table. Would voters have disdain or empathy towards poverty if they were in these same shoes? Getting viewers to react with emotion or opinion may not even be present in the comment/vote result. I love this sites pretty pictures. Being a quick voter myself I sometimes need a good 10 to 15 minutes to fully appreciate a complex image. Every vote should have a comment to be valid is my opinion. Flashing through the voting process, I often miss original work contrairy to popular work. |
