I know this is petty, but off the heels of my last four, I'd like to say:

Freakin' A.

plus two of my commenters gave me 10's. Another tore me apart. The 4th gave me a new suggestion for my title.

voters realy do behave strangely.

I did not know that people living in poverty had to look realy bad.
News flash: poverty is a social standing and has nothing to do with looks.

After voting I have a strange desire to watch "Baraka" and go do something good.

Don't worry - this may make you feel better, or worse...
I went out geo-caching with a friend and his girl firned cam along with a SMALL point n shoot 2Mp camera. As we walked, near dusk on a rainy day in a wooded park, she was taking pics. I asked her about it, and she says she was selling prints at a small store in Ohio. I attempted to start a photography discussion, but she knows NOTHING. Her sister has tried to teach her she says, but she refuses to learn. She is afraid that the knowledge might hurt her 'natural ability'. She does not use PS or anything else.

So if what she says is true, why aren't we all making our living as professional photographers?

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about your photos. If you are in the 5's you have a pretty good photo. 4's are average and I have seen some 7's and 8's but that is rare. 6's are usually strong photos and are in the hunt. People here will score hard and some will give comments but don't expect that all the time. Anyway, good luck to all and I have seen some great shots.

My best start ever, I am very pleased.

I started out in the 7's after the first few votes, then performed a beautiful 2-1/2 backflip dive in the pike position with a twist... down to 5.87 with 4 good comments. I didn't expect the photo to ribbon, but the dive might. I'm just happy to have something to update again. ;-)

I did not look at the pictures yet but I am not to hopeful of seeing creative ways to display poverty.

I mean, can I expect only stock photo black and whites of children with cups or grimey homeless people on cathedral steps innapropriately dressed for the weather?

Lets listen to the entry- the title, the mood, instead of being so photo-journalistically banal.

It dosen't pay to be out of the box! I'm below 4.000 because it does not display a poor person or place I think.

I simply could not bring myself to take a photo of some one in that position, when try to they would look at me so I would turn the camera another way or just walk off.

Definitely does not pay to be too creative. I think the black and white shots of third world countries are the way to go. Pity my personal jet was getting serviced last week. [end sarcasm]

There are plenty of good photos in this group that use subjects other than homeless people or starving children. There's nothing wrong with thinking outside the box. Creatiity is the best way to avoid a depressing image.

When do we get to see who the photgrapher is for the photos we voted on? Do you get to see who gave you what score?
