Hello all
My name is trevor
I am new here- havent posted anything yet but am getting into photography and love it! I am going to Hawaii in august -the big island and am looking into renting a lens. does anyone know much about these types of sites. i was looking mostly at thelensdepot.com. has anyone used them? are they a decent company. if so what lens would you suggest for mostly landscape shooting. id like to get some good beach shots also some of the waterfalls and various landscape. I already have these lenses
Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 V USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

but was looking at something with more wide angle like the canon 10-22. so any suggestions or help would be greatly valued!

The canon 10-22 is the gold standard for landscape photography with cropped-sensor cameras. If you can swing it, I think that'd be your best bet.

You won't get wider.. (in a rectilinear lens)

Hey, welcome to the site! If you're mostly going to shoot landscape, wide angle would probably be the best. or you could go with the 18-55 so you have more versatility for those snapshots. =)

The 15-85 is killer sharp, and a bit wider, but I assume that if you're renting you want something that's pretty different from what you have....

And since I was remiss in this earlier - yes, indeed, welcome!! We'd love to see some of the photos!

I haven't rented before, so I can't speak knowledgeably on that. However, I HIGHLY recommend the canon 10-22 lens. I haven't done many landscapes, but I picked up the 10-22 because I was intrigued. I absolutely love the lens. It goes with me everywhere I go -- even if I have no plans for landscapes that day.

I would say it's a definite must for Hawaii! You will not be disappointed.

Welcome, btw! I can hardly wait to see your pix when you get back :)

One more vote for the 10-22mm.
