Greetings fellow D70'ers I just got mine today, i had the Sony DCS F828 but due to an error i had to return it and the shop gave me a full refund so i got me a Nikon SLR D70, just like the old days, back to looking through the viewfinder instead of a screen, any tips that can help me using this thing will be great as the manual is in Japanese..
i also got theNikon AF NIKOR 70-300mm F series lens, it seems a bit 'plasticy' but im buying a really nice Nikon D series AF 28-120 next week, i hear that i will loose quality unless i use an F series lens only.. is this true?.. any pointers i would appreciate.
Well TEAM NIKON Im not great but improving i think

Good one alionic, welcome to the nikon club!
I think you'll find it a great camera. I have the nikkor 70-300mm D series lens. I've had some fun with it. One of the best lenses you can get for the D70 is the kit lens, 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5. Silent, quick AF and nice and sharp pictures that have a bit more wideangle that normal lenses for the D70.
I'm still finding features on the D70, and I probably haven't found them all.
Have fun!

Welcome! I love mine but I still use my CoolPix 3100 occasionally. I rarely remove my nikkor 70-300mm D lens since I generally shoot outdoors.
FYI: Use the NikonView software for downloads and there is a feature that you can turn on to automatically sync your camera with your computers date and time. There are always instances where people have forgotten to set the date/time on their cameras and consequently their pics have been disqualified.

Welcome aboard!! I jusst got mine a week ago so I don't have any tips to give you ... yet! ;-) I also got the kit lens and the Sigma 105mm macro. I use my Sigma outside because I can both do macros and take shots of animals (since I don't have a good zoom lens yet.
Have fun!! I know I am.

Japanese??
Anyway, congratulations! I went the other way (to the dark side? lol) but before I bought my 300D, I looked at the Nikons pretty seriously. Here's a link that might help you out...Nikon's SLR Learning Center |

You might find this link useful too. You can download the manual and getting started guide and so on from Nikon Europe

You could go to the shop and order the manual in English. I did that when I bought my first Nikon 2 years ago.
If you have any questions about the Japanese, you can always PM me. |

Thank you very much for the pointers I managed to get the manual downloaded (they don't help that much really but i like to have it all the same) I been taking some pics with the 70-300mm and i had forgotten just how far away you can be from a subject. it feels great to be back on a camera that has the feel of an SLR. I will be trying to buy another lens today, also I will upload some pics that were taken using it at various settings. Finally I hope I don't let the side down, Im going to enter the next challenge using the Nikon.

These newer DSLRs are fantastic cameras! Congrats on your acquisition.
Being retired on a marginal income, one of these is not in my immediate future.
But I do love the technology! An ancient Kodak/Nikon DCS460 will arrive soon but it just does not have the pizazz of the newer models!!

Congratulations on your new camera, and welcome to the team! It's a beautiful camera, the kit lens works great, as does the 70-300 mm. The colours are very nice. Pictures are quite good even at higher ISOs. You're going to love the camera.

I've been very happy with the D70. Very flexable. The pics on this link are all shot at ISO 1600 with the kit lens. Some grain but that is to expected. Good luck with yours.
