I turned on scores and am delighted to see my one (1) current challenge entry is above my average! This is a rare treat in the past few months. It is also likely to be the latest in my Almost-But-Not-Six Collection. Had one of those last week. Have had a few this year. That mildly frustrating (but still very very good in my book) 5.9something that dances ever so teasingly into 6.000x territory then drops right back down with a little "nyah nyah" whispered across the wires.
Anyway, world's tiniest violin plays for me and my Almost-But-Not-Six Collection for 2010:
   
  
You're welcome to join in if you wish. I'll add the new one after the challenge closes. Assuming it keeps the 5.9 status - there's always the possibility it'll drop a bit below that; then it doesn't count. :-) |

I'll join the pity party. This was the closest I had in 2010 to your situation. It ended at 5.8, but was above 6 for a good part of the week. And I was so disappointed because I was so proud of this shot. Oh well, I've had quite a few 6s this year, which is very abnormal for me. Maybe I'm learning... naa.

I thought this deserved a 6+ but with the competition in that challenge, it was not surprising.

I could have broken into the 6's if I had a better model :)
Instead, I had to settle for a 5.9905 in a self portrait. |

That's because you screwed up and had too many sixes. And a seven. So you forfeited your right to a couple of solid 5.9+-but-not-6's. Maybe next year if you're not so greedy on the darn sixes!

I only have 3 in the 5.9 range and they all sit on my front page.

I think all of these, as well as some that didn't stay over 5.9, teased me by flirting in the 6 range before slipping.

last week...."first entry" challenge...started at 6.1xx and finished at 5.9xx
side note: the original was a horrible DNMC and scored 3.4xx, so the 5.9 was very welcome, as well placed 2nd on my front page... |

So far a third of my entries this year have been a 5.9.
(Ok - so i have only had 3 entries - but even then the 5.9 is my average) |

I have had two in this range for the year (i haven't entered that much). Looking at the others that people have posted, it is a great reminder that there are many very good images in this range....

This is the only one I was disappointed that it didn't finish higher as I thought it was one of the best images I have taken this year for a challenge.
