I had a Minolta Maxxum Slr and a 300mm zoom lens these were all purchased about 4-6 years ago. I have since had the camera stolen but still have the lens. I am looking at getting a digital slr camera soon. Does anyone know if there is a digital that will take this lens? I dont have the specs at the moment but if they are needed I could get them. If this is not possible... what is the best quality for the money in an SLR digital?? Brand new to this and looking for all the help I can get!

Thank you!!

Look around the forum a bit and you will find many, many debates on the pros and cons between the Canon D300 (Rebel) or for about 50% more the Canon D10 and the Nikon D70 somewhere between the two price-wise, IIRC.

There are others, but these are the three that keep coming up when discussing 'value' DSLRs, with the intend to not sacrifice anymore quality than possible and an eye toward future-proofing. I just would not expect a Minolta lens to fit on them.

I have not heard Minolta brought up in the forums, but I think I will go look at what they have to offer -- just because I am not curious.

/edit: Ok, so I have heard Minolta come up, I had just not connected the DiMage with Minolta. Shows how much I pay attention, I suppose.

A quick look around Minoltas site found only one SLR camera with interchangable lens, but it was only a 2.7 Megapixal.

I'll let others with actual experience with these cameras comment in more detail.

Hi Megan, if you hold out a few more months, you will be able to get the Konica-Minolta Digital Maxxum SLR. It's been announced and I'm anxiously awaiting it's release - I also am a user of the Maxxum SLR with a cache of lenses.

Here's a little write up based on last February's press releases about the Maxxum 7 Digital: Maxxum 7 on DPReview
It's expected to sell for about $1500. Perhaps the best thing about it is the Anti-Shake feature; that means your 300mm zoom will become an Image Stabilized lens.
