Found this and thought I would share - I wouldn`t say they are the best images, just some great captures.
Warning, some gore in there and some upsetting images.

Boston.com's big picture has a nice set of photos from this year - stunning stuff (as always)

If I recall this was a `story` at the time. In this world where sexuality sells its the kind of thing that knocks real stories off the frontpages - I think its inclusion amongst some of the more horrific shots is actually rather clever, in a mocking, cynical way.

When I compare picture 71 and 72 it makes me wonder why the world is what it is. |

These are the best images of our world of the last decade? Depressing. |

With all that "Depressing" comments here... I am not even looking at those images. I want to start my day happy.
I wonder "who" chooses those images to become "Photo of the decade" anyways? |

144 images, and the overall impression is that it was a decade of bombs.

That's photojournalism for you. Suffering, strife, and death. The photos of dead children...I have no ambition to be a photojournalist. |

Yeah, it was big news for about a week in 2003. The full-on girl-girl kisses during the VMA's was definitely shocking to mainstream American culture. On second thought, I agree with you on the clever inclusion :)

Yeah, tell me about it. When was the last time traffic was stalled because a beautiful double rainbow was in the sky?
