Well... kind of prepares you. :) |
[rant]I completely agree. A friend sent me on a link before for some soccer league in Canada where if the winning team won by more than 5 goals they lost the game. From one point of view you could think that's not such a bad idea... but think about it teaches the kids?
It teaches the winning team that they shouldn't try their hardest to reach any sort of potential.
And (worse) it teaches the losing team that even if they don't try at all they might still come out the better for it.
An intelligent team should score own goals to win.[/rant]

i agree 100%
a while ago i'd see bumper stickers on cars saying "my kid is an honor roll student at so and so elementary school". then, because some kids felt left out, i actually started seeing bumper stickers with stuff like "my kid is a B or C at so and so elementary school". is it just me or does that glorify mediocrity? i donno, i just think that's the wrong lesson to teach a youngster.

what!?!?! That must be wrong. So if you're up by 4 goals, you should stop trying? What a stupid thing. "you're great. Stop trying."
The little league here has a mercy rule per inning. After 5 runs, your half of the inning is done. Which I actually like. The purpose of little league is to teach the game. There really isn't a lot of reason to let one team score 28 runs in one inning. I'd rather the kids stop at 5 runs and get more play time, experience in during the game. It's extremely rare that it changes the outcome of the game. They certainly understand that this isn't how the game is played, but it gives more teaching opportunities.

I'm glad there hasn't been many votes... My score has being going down, down, down over the last 30 votes. I don't think there was a single rise during that time. just a very nice example of a slope in the unhappy direction.
No votes are good votes! :D

off to go shoot for street photography so that I have something to complain about next week. :) (though the photoshop one actually sounds like a lot of fun.)

Just looking at my trends now (via my program, download it everyone! :D)
Lots of vote changing (for the better mostly!)
100 6.19
101 6.2178
101 6.2277
101 6.2376
102 6.2059
103 6.2039
103 6.2233
The 93rd vote was great for comments:
Vote Score Comments
93 6.172 8
93 6.172 9
93 6.172 10
I've been on a rough increasing trend since vote #1 (which was a 1, but I forgot to turn on my program to scrape it)
Score
I look at the last time the save-file was generated which was logically the last time someone voted for me or changed their score or commented.
vawendy, you not entered in best of 2010. That has potential to be the complaint of the year!

Apparently I am going for consistency this week. I have two entries currently in voting -- "Doesn't Belong" and "Leading Lines". Right now the difference between my scores for these two is 0.0006. |

Home from a week away to see that the score has dropped.
It's still a good score but I liked it better when it was higher (of course)
With any luck some weekend voters will help it up a bit (fingers crossed)

Moved up 0.2, I guess that's where it will stay.
My last check of the score is usually some 6 hours before rollover (which happens at 6AM local). There is always quite a difference in the final score - sometimes up, other times down. Many people adjusting their votes in the final hours, I guess.
Good score, RamblinR! Fingers crossed :) |

Yes, it is a good score and it would be very pleasing to get a ribbon but there were some great images in this challenge and I don't know that this score will be enough to get me over the line. Fingers and toes crossed. |

What has made me happy about my entry was the number of comments that basically commented that my shot captured precisely what I hoped it would. Ole. Smells like a PB too :-)
