You have to realize that squirrels are my destiny. I went out to shoot for the Henri Cartier-Besson challenge, and this is the first thing I saw (8 miles from my own squirrels):

It's not that I was keeping a respectful distance; the 400mm only focuses down to like 6 feet or something... Here's what I was shooting:

Next time I will take peanuts and lie on the ground, I promise! :-) |
But then Wendy will capture the squirrel biting your nose. :P |
No, no, no! Do not let them trick you into laying down on the ground! They won't simply bite your nose, they will rip it from your face! What is wrong with you people? Don't you realize that squirrels kill more people each year than, well than... I'm not sure. But, they do! |

I really did try to do something DPC friendly, but missed by a mile. But I did promise Wendy I'll never enter another squirrel. :-)

This from the mistress of the pigeon portrait!!!!
Meanwhile, I never could enter this little lady in competition, because expert editing wasn't invented yet.

We have the melanistic phase Abert's Squirrels in our mountains. I photograph them all the time, but rarely enter the photos in challenges here. The Abert's Squirrels are indigenous. The Fox Squirrels are an invasive species. I try to steer the Northern Goshawks and owls to the latter.

It's important to mention the risks of eating squirrels. Even if it's remote, it's not a risk I'd take. |

Oh, the problem with the squirrels was in Kentucky. And, it's Tennessee which borders Alabama. I get those States confused.
No offense intended towards any person, State or squirrel. And, before someone else posts the link, the squirrels of the Western US pose their own risk.
