Hmmm I use a tripod most of the time. Too old and shaky not to. So what are we talking about here? |

Would it mainly be time elapsed photos? What else? |

It is pretty much another Long Exposure challenge. |

I will shoot a tripod... obviously needed one for the image, not so?
Night, waterfalls, macros, seascapes.... I see a lot of DNMC (Not from me) great pix not being rated well. Eg, I can shoot a good landscape handheld. The trolls are going to suck that "obvious" tit dry! |

I think it has to be stated, maybe a few times in this thread for those who dont read all comments, that the challenge title is "OBVIOUS Tripod" meaning in my opinion that it is not just a photo taken with a tripod, it needs to have movement and still subjects* to make it clear that it was taken on a tripod.
I think thatOriginally posted by vawendy: self portraits | might not be so obvious as a tripod shot...IMHO :-)
*I didnt want to say objects just in case we started the whole "what is an object" discussion again!

Hmmmm, add a dash of 'why didn't I think of that' and a dollup of fun & fancy into the mix... Well, I have my idea now just to pull it off. |

I am taking a road trip up the coast and eventually making my way to Yosemite :)
I had specific pictures in mind that I wanted to take on this trip and when I saw the rollover had a challenge for something with a long exposure (obvious tripod) I got real excited. Im expecting big things from this photo. |

I don't know why not; meets the challenge, certainly. Or images that use shadows or reflections of the tripod actually used in the making of them...

What about the makeshift tripods? Car hoods, fence posts, tree stumps, rocks, etc. Would these be DNMC? I'm sure we all have used something, other than a tripod, to hold the camera steady. |

If you're talking about FEATURING the DIY/makeshift tripod in the image, then you'll get hammered. If you can't see it, who will know? If you rest your camera on a wall to shoot a night cityscape, or whatever, then the shot obviously "requires" a tripod and nobody has anyway of knowing if it's a tripod, a monopod, a brick wall, a windowsill, a mantel, or a VERY steady human being...
Remember, though; the challenge doesn't SAY anything about actually using a tripod to make the shot; it says "Capture a photo that obviously requires a tripod for it to turn out well."
By that wording, if you take a crap photo without using a tripod where a tripod would have made it a *good* photo, you have met the challenge. Good luck getting that one past the voters, though :-)

I use the tripod for light painting and of course HDR |

I shoot many of my HDRs handheld, so that's an obvious DNMC.
Kidding! :) |

Lol, who would have thought that a photographic website could turn out to be so contraversial!
Makeshift tripods...I used my ironing board to rest my camera on a few days ago as my child was doing funny things and i needed to video him.
No one needs to know what you are using so long as it is a good photo that demonstrates the use of a tripod.
