We had a local thespian die after being active in the local theatre group for more than 35 years. We're trying to make a memorial for him and want to include a photo...unfortunately the photo that has been chosen is a VERY small photo 30kb. We are hoping that someone can take this minuscule photo and convert it to B/W and make it printable at 8x10.
I know I don't have the skills to do it...I'm hoping that someone here can.
Here is the photo (all 30kbs of it)....
Thank you in advance for any and all attempts. |

I upsized it in OnOne's Perfect Resize 7 and cropped to 8x10 (300dpi). No other edits. It came out a little painterly, but maybe someone else can edit from there...

Here's a quick edit of the upsized version:

Well, I just upsized the original in Photoshop, and used some noise-reduction. If you like the tonal treatment (isolate Red channel to Grayscale, Tone Curve) I can easily recreate it from the other upsized image.

here is my version.
Not much data to work with.
Upsized it in Onone's Perfect Resize 7 - and did a bw conversion.
did not crop the image to fit 8x10.. but made a border in 8x10 and made the image fit inside.

I've been using a lot of black borders lately as well -- looks good. |

Used Topaz Simplify to "art" it up, after upsizing incrementally in Photoshop, then Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0 for the conversion.
It seems to me that allowing it to be unabashedly painterly is better than trying to pretend it's a sharp image...

I used a lot of cloning to smooth out the pixel look. |

blurred the background, tried to isolate him more. put on white to feel more 'angelic'
added noise to offset the low resolution.

I didn't try and do anything fancy here. Just what you requested. Some noise removal, enlarged, convert to B&W and 8x10 crop.
File 8x10 at 300 dpi.

I don't have time tonight but I have done quite a few resize jobbies and found the best way to do it with such a small file is to simply print it out and take a photo of it then use that image to edit..
If someone has the time please give it a try it works really well |
