I know what you mean. There were several photos that didn't meet the challenge or were very poorly taken (grainy, out of focus, no composition, or snapshots) that beat out my photo. And some recieved a few tens, why I'll never know.

I see comments of people saying "You didn't meet the challenge at all but I like this so I'm giving you an 8" WHY?? I understand giving credit for a well taken shot, but why bump out people who actually worked to meet the challenge?

37th place for me with a 5.7 and only 9 comments. I thought it was a little stronger than that, but I guess not. It also got me my second DQ request.

I got 4.299 (209 / 253) on mine, and I was shocked to see 15 ones! I guess there are alot of people who have no idea what sign language is, but I'd like to see a comment if you're going to score a picture that low, especially since it was in focus and composed.

You probably suffered from a lot of do not meet the challenge votes. Also, most people do not know sign language, making it uninteresting to a large % of your viewers.

I was waiting to check if mine was in 9th or 10th place, I was completely shocked to see a yellow ribbon under it!

Thanks :)

I know many people can't read sign language, but what did they think the picture was of?? Even people who don't read the language should be able to tell that it is sign language. I got one comment from someone who thought I was trying to represent "thinking outside the box".

Also, "Talking Hands" got 74th place, and used the same concept, and it was blurry as well, so I don't see how mine could have scored so low.

The other hands shot has more interest then yours and I think the lighting is too harsh on yours. Also, the other one is in focus, the DOF is just shallow. I think the other one is just more attractive then yours.
Don't drive yourself too nuts trying to figure out why 300+ people voted the way they did.
