This is my first attempt at selective desaturation, inspired by one of the past challenges. Any advice would be appreciated and also, let me know if you have any other cropping suggestions. My husband would focus on the upper half only, not here full figure. Thanks!

Cropping closer would really bring your attention to the flowers. Initially your eyes focus in on the flower and start to wonder around the whole composition. A closer crop would eliminate the wondering eyes problem.
Also tone down the satuaration a bit. If the colors in a desat is to vibrant sometimes it looks like a cartoonish version of a subject. Really depends on your subject, but I think your subject matter would be nicer with a softer effect. Which process did you use for this desat?

I think you have the start of something grande! :-)
I would probably crop from about the waist up... Also, maybe desaturate the flowers themselves "about half way" to give it a softer effect. And then lighten everything just a tad.

I concur... if you want a bit more body, crop just below the ends of the ribbons. Desaturating the flowers just a tiny bit might be better, and I would also suggest a tad more contrast in the B/W to give it a little more "umph." You have done an excellent job for a first attempt!!! :o)

Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate it. :-) I never thought about toning the flowers down. They were pretty bright to begin with. I am going to try some adjustments, and will post again. Fadoi, in Photoshop, I made a duplicate layer (first layer color) made the 2nd layer black & white, and then with the eraser tool, erased the flowers on the top layer so the color 'came through'.
