Hi, All.
I'm new here, and looking forward to lots of good times with this community.
Question:
When a challenge says that the 'Submission Deadline:' is a particular date, does it mean that submissions must be entered prior to that stated date, or before the end of that particular date?
Sorry if this is already answered elsewhere (I assume it is).
I'm not a complete idiot....I just don't see it.
Thanks.

Welcome! :) The easiest way to know when the submission deadline is, is to look at the little countdown clock at the bottom of the challenge. It tells you how many days left to enter and if it is on the last day to enter it will count down the hours. For the most part deadlines are on Sunday nights, Tuesday nights and Thursday nights at midnight exactly a week from when they start. |

Sorry, but I see no such 'countdown' on the challenge page.
The only things I see are 1. the deadline date, and then the current time.
However, it does not say if I need to submit before that date, or before the end of that date.

Scroll down on your home page to the list of challenges. That is where the countdown is. If you are in the same time zone as DPC rollover will be midnight of the deadline date. If you are in a different time zone you'll have to work out the adjustment.
ETA Welcome to DPC. Enjoy the fun and madness (and addiction).

Aha.
Ya, I had no problem understanding the whole time zone piece.
I see it now on the home page. Thanks.
They should probably state the deadline on the challenge page as a particular time on a particular date, instead of just as a particular date.
In some contexts, a deadline means that the thing being submitted must be submitted prior to the beginning of the stated deadline date.
Without looking at the page you pointed me to, I could have had no concrete knowledge of which sense they meant the word 'deadline'.
It's like when someone at work says, "We need these papers filled out and handed in by next Tuesday".
A strict read of such a statement would mean that they must be handed in prior to the beginning of next Tuesday.
Yet, most people, for some reason, take the phrase, "by next Tuesday" to mean that it's OK to hand them in sometime 'ON' next Tuesday...even though that is actually not an accurate interpretation of the words being used.
Anyway, I understand the 'deadlines' on this site now to mean, "At the specified time ON the date stated as the deadline date" (regardless of what that is......of course, in this case, I know when that is as well, but it wasn't the time of day or which time zone I needed help with, but which day the deadline actually happens on.
Thanks, jomari

Welcome to DPC.
Be sure that you check and set the correct local time in your camera. Several ribbon shots have been DQ'd by failure to do so.

You're welcome. Actually for me the deadline is well into the next day because I live in Australia. The confusion over deadlines somehow reminds me of the confusion over blood alcohol. Here the legal limit is .05 and people think they are okay at .05. They're not, they have to be below that.

Do we go on 3 ? Or is it 1, 2, 3 and then go? |

The deadline debate is just a precursor for the great challenge description definition debate.

Thanks.
I'm not even sure what that means right now, but I'm just about to submit, and I hope I fair well.

I totally know what you mean. Healthy, intelligent people just don't ever get anywhere close to 'the limit' while driving, because it's just not worth it. Likewise, I really should just plan to be ready to go a couple days prior to whenever the deadline is so that I'm covered, regardless. Thanks again :)

Ha ha! That's classic! :-)
:ROTFLMAO:
Yep. I get it, and I can take a good ribbing.
Thanks, bud.

Uh oh, hopefully that's not something that gets hashed over again and again around here.
I'm still a noob here, and so far, I' extremely delighted with the kindness and intelligence in this place.
