Thank you. That's a great link and an enlightening read.

I've bookmarked it for future reference as well.

Heartily agree Mousie! Thanks for the link. Hopefully, someday they will realize what they are doing and start discussing real issues in a rational manner!

A very good treatsie. Another superb source are to be found in Plato's Works. read some of these and you will see masters applying the very principles of logic and cunning.

I hope someone who's more of a jerk than I will go analyze some current posts line by line, with references to specific trick numbers.

And going forward, we now have a simple shorthand for responding to an attempt: "Oh no you don't, 15!"

XXXOOO

The truth of the matter is that all debates have an opposite of almost equal force. I say almost, because logic can be sculptured to see both sides. Yet, thruth is the hero and is the criteria which defeats its opposite. When the dark forces take the upper hand, it means there was not a strong counterforce present...eventually it evens out and the errors are seen.

You mean like "there's too many cat pictures posted." Of course, for Mousie I guess that's truer than for most ...

You're welcome to try my posts ... or if you need a project for a doctoral thesis, just use these criteria to parse Discover Freedom : )

I second that.

6 and 8 seem to be the common modes around here.

(6) Diversion to another question, to a side issue, or by irrelevant objection (pp 44-48)
.
(8) The argument that we should not make efforts against X which is admittedly evil because there is a worse evil Y against which our efforts should be directed (pp 50-52)

#35 is to me the one that I observe the most in heated threads. Typically by the same proponents repeatedly. Interspearsed throughout the angry posts are those who are simply stating their ideology. The tactics referred to in this piece are universally observable in various country's political houses. It is then the wise consumer that applies these 38 rules to their own political party, so as to clearly see the core of the message and be able to separate the "wheat from the chaffe".

Good solid analysis on the art of argument.
