This should stir things up.
Because there are so many differing levels of expertize here on this site, in ALL areas of image presentation. Are we getting to the point where a well presented, composed, edited and focused image is no longer " Pressing the right button".
THINK ABOUT IT. How many images have you looked at and judge in the competitions, and thought not bad, but seen it before, low score.
Ok so it might be yet another Drop photo from a portfolio of Drops. (just an example), OR it might be the first time that person has managed to take that shot.
We are all pushing the boundries, some of us are just pushing them from further back.
So here is my challenge for the month, Take a little time to go back over a photo you judged low in a challenge, and see if it was a one off, a Noob or change from the normal for that person. Then, if you can, comment, hint, suggest.
If they are on this site to learn they will appreciate this, if not then you can remember not to try again for them.
Most of us came here to improve, ok there are some who came to show off, but most of us will admit, there are areas we need to improve, and getting good comments is nice, but constructive critisism is where we improve.
Ok so thats my thoughts. Lets see how it works out

I think that your challenge is worthwhile. It's a good idea to slow down a bit, to reconsider and to offer some good advice when possible.

However, regarding your premise that we may be getting jaded. I'm not so sure. For sure, trends come and go but so do voters and participants. From a macro statistical view we actually may be becoming a bit more lenient :-)

i admit i do. i tend to score images that aren't the same old stuff higher. if i see a picture of an aurora in a free study, meh... they all look the same. wine glasses and water drops? who cares.

however those images still tend to score high, even though i don't like them. i know i also tend to score high images i try to pull off yet cant, even though they may not be out of the box. so maybe if i tried to take an aurora or water drop or wine glass image i might have an appreciation for any difficulty involved.

i guess it comes down to if the image resonates with you in some way over whether or not its played out.

If that was the case for me, then there are oodles of OOF, blurry and tilted images that would simply score through the roof.

I have scored novel images really high, but certainly not simply because they "aren't the same old stuff", but rather because I saw in them a certain "Je ne sais quoi" which I found appealing.
