hi guys, im gonna be in death valley next week. its a 2 day/1 night side trip from vegas so i dont have a lot of time and want to plan what time i do have wisely.

do you have any advise for locations and must have gear for this type of shooting? im thinkin of mesquite dunes for sunrise. but i also want to shoot badwater salt flats but i guess that would have to be sunset and night time.

thanks :)

I'd PM cutlassdude70 and Gringo and ask them.

They've both been to Bodie, and those two know the area. Check out their ports...

Rhyolite was cool when I was there a jillion years ago.....

Most popular spots:

Zabriskie Point -- Be there at sunrise unless you want to shoot into the sun at sunset however the sunset is also very beautiful there. Use your Canon EF 100-300mm f/5.6L and see if you can catch some of the hikers there like I did here:

Badwater Basin -- Be there at sunset. Use your Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM. I took this last month:

Mesquite Sand Dunes -- Be there at either sunrise or sunset and you can use either of your lenses

Other places you can visit during the day: Dante's View, Ubehebe Crater, Scotty's Castle, Rhyolite Ghost Town in Nevada, etc

The ideal place to stay is at Furnace Creek Ranch because it is close to all the destinations.

Have fun!
