I'm not crazy about this topic either and I'm from the USA. With all the things going on in the stock market and with major corporations filing bankruptcy, it's a depressing topic.

Just a idea for you....paper shredder :)

Yeah, that's part of my everyday worklife. Then there is white-out, stacks of invoices, payables, fax machines, and a self portrait of me crying over my 401K report. Yuck, sounds like work. I'm going to bed.

Help Wanted : CEO looking model to pose stiking a knife in a workers back. Must not be afraid to get a little blood on your suit.

In solidarity with the international community, I think I'll take a week off.

I look at this site as a diversion to everyday things and to me this current topic 'Corpoarate America' just makes me think of the bad things that are going on in corporate America. If I think of a great idea I will certainly try to capture it but I'm certainly not crazy about thinking about this topic anymore then I already am. Sorry to complain but some of these topics just aren't what I was hoping for. But that's just me.

I seem to remember something about the role of US corporations in South Africa -- and specifically the issues around stock divestitures and shareholders forcing changes in company policy -- had at least some role in changing the nature of the SA government. Perhaps you can find an interesting reference to that

YEAH! We hate America for doing that! (How would you feel if another country forces you to change anything?)

The challenge has been changed to work all users of the site.

I was curious - how is it that there are already submissions to this contest? I'm new, but wouldn't they have had to take them in the middle of the night?

12:00 AM EST is not the middle of the night in some countries / states.

DPC is a wonderful site for all of us to participate. I am sure that this topic was not intentionally chosen for political purposes. From what I have read most of the participants are just every day working folks, so why not take what pictures you can and keep this a learning site. I for one will be glad to see what the working class comes up with that are in another country. You too might be surprised at what the American working class enters . I feel that most of us are not exactly what appears in the headlines. Gotta go to work now.

Hopefully this comment will kill this thread.

Just a word of thanks for all your support and a big thank you too Drew and Langdon for changing the wording of the challenge so that we can all take part.

ps: anyone got any ideas? *grin*

In rural South Georgia (U.S.), this feels like a stock photograpy challenge to me. Cotton bolls aren't out. Peanuts aren't being harvested yet. Would a shot of the AFLAC duck work?

The wording has been adjusted one last time as of 10 AM EST.

My quick note on it... It's an interesting topic no matter how it's worded. I assure you there was no international conspiracy.

I notice there's no comment on unintentional conspiracies. ;-)

The CIA has a clone of Dick Nixon in Area 51 and has taught him to hack... This kind of thing is the result.

How about a pic of a human skull, with stars & stripes painted on? Must be easy to do in PS...

Or how about a pic of their unsigned line in the Kyoto treaty? After all, it was not signed to "save" their economy?

And what about child slavery in Asia? A kid stitching the Nike logo on a sneaker for example.

Subjects enough to define corporate US "outside US". Something on that 30% subsidy for US steel. Or something on their war against tereorism (which will soon turn into a "war for oil", as we all expect)? I could go on for quite a while...

Not easy to put some of these things into a picture. But any attempt will get high scores from me!

Do Americans ever do anything good?
I''m a working middle-class single widowed parent raising two fatherless children without any help from our government and paying taxes every year. Not that anyone was trying to put me down personally..but I take offense to how others in other countries lump all Americans into one stereotypical category.
How about a photo of all the factories that have closed because we import everything from China, Mexico and God only knows where else. How about a photo of families that can''t make ends meet living on the street or in their cars? How about a photo of people who work their butts off trying to feed their families if they are lucky enough to still have a job?
We aren''t all evil over here...just something to think about. Most of us are just trying to live.

Please excuse me if I misinterpreted anything you said...I''ve just had it.

Amen, Karen. I have so many burried comments and emotions on this topic that I'm not even going to try to put it into words, but suffice it to say that you make a lot of good points. There's nothing I hate more than arrogance.

What about a picture of Americans liberating Kuwait? What about a photograph of the billions of dollars we give to 3rd world nations? What about a picture of the memorials of the thousands that have died on foriegn shores to liberate other countries? (Cuba, the Phillipines, Korea, Europe....)

What about a picture depicting the working conditions and pay of the local factories and the one of US companies (where pay is higher and conditions are better?

This bleeding heart crap sickens me. If that child was not working in a Nike factory do you think he would be in school? He is not a slave, he is working for money he and his family needs. The same thing happened in the US during the industrial revolution. It is part of the growth of any society.

I have a feeling scoring is going to be very interesting this time around. I can imagine some people going "to far" for others and getting pounced upon ect.... something like this thread.
