Hi guys,

I just got my first ribbon ever! I am so incredibly excited!!! I was shrieking and jumping up and down, literally xD

I also got asked to submit validation. Should I be concerned, or is this fairly standard if you are in the top 10?

The top 5 always have to submit for validation.

You receive a validation request when you reach top 5, so don't worry :)

Just send your original without doing ANYTHING to it. When I sent in my first submission for validation I didn't know that you don't save for web. I kept getting told, no this is not your original and didn't know why. Eventually I sent it without doing that, but not because I was 'educated', just because I was desperate and trying everything. I'm lucky I didn't get a DQ, but at least I was given a few days grace to try to sort things out.

Hopefully, you shot in RAW and don't end up getting caught out by the MS image transfer software gremlin.....

It's still the original unedited shot though... I didn't know I had to shoot in RAW for dpc. Oh god if I get dqed for this I'm going to be upset :(

you don't have to shoot RAW. just send them the original.

Okay. God I'm nervous now. How long does validation take? I sent the original soon as I got the email.

You don't have to shoot RAW, but if you shoot jpeg, then you have to manually transfer the files from your card/camera instead of using the OS's transfer software. If you let your computer download the files, it alters them slightly, rendering the files altered just from the transfer software.

I use Canon's ZoomBrowser to download photos and I pass validation.

I think not,I used to shoot jpeg and it must be straight from the card.
I know that if it goes threw Lightroom it is not any use.
Think you need to drag the file from card to mail and send.

If the file has EXIF issues, the site council are pretty fast in responding. Just be sure to check your spam folder for emails from SC.

Hmm, I should think they can extract the EXIF data from what I sent them, I just used this site: //www.findexif.com/ and it was able to pull the EXIF data from the image.

Yes, they'll do that... I sent mine too and now is waiting time.... rrrrr, but we should be fine ;-)

It's not just a question of if the EXIF data can be read, but whether it indicates that the image is a completely unedited/unaltered original, exactly the same as it was recorded on the card by the camera.

I always recommend using a card reader, and dragging the files from the card to the hard drive using the computer's operating system.

I also never erase the image from the card until I have burned a backup to CD/DVD, which ensures there is always an untouched copy in (at least) two places (optical disc and hard drive).

Unfortunately I don't have a card reader, might be time to get one lol.
