Here is the one I posted, and I'm okay with the result and comments as there were some gorgeous shots out there.
Would any of these have done better?
Thanks for your critiques/comments!

Of course it's all a matter of personal taste but....
I love "Fresh cut high horizon". That includes taking into consideration the one you entered.
Good eye. |

i really like the fresh cut low horizon shot. i think that one may have done better than your original submission. i thik your image was just a touch too dark (although it was a cool effect to have the rails so bright). |

Hi Mike,
Kind of a toss-up on which I like better:
Steadfast
-or-
Fresh Cut, High Horizon
I really liked your steadfast entry and was one of my favorites
in the Vanishing Point challenge, but your Fresh Cut, High Horizon
has some real merit (and punch!)

Any other critiques or tips? I'm thirsty for knowledge as I try and improve my photography skills...I'm a rookie here! |

I do have to say it is personal taste. I like the one you submitted best. Maybe if you had cropped out the power lines and made it portrait with just the tracks and the background it might have more pop.

Although I liked you entry - and commented on it, I like "Fresh Cut" much better.

Fresh cut..high horizon stands out for me and would have done very well in my opinion.
I picked it as a favourite and left a comment a couple of days ago when I saw it in your portfolio.

I would be interested in your comments on this photo, taken in northern France, which I could not submit because it was not taken in the competition week. Of course had I been able to cubmit it I would have rotated and cropped it as well as doing some levels adjustments. |

To be honest, I don't like the one you entered at all. The lines leading to the Vanishing Point are faint and weak. The silhouette shapes lack interest. The composition is very weak. This is only IMO of course; others will no doubt feel differently.
Of the alternatives you have posted I also like Fresh Cut High Horizon best and like it much, much better than the one you entered. The lines leading to the VP are much stronger and have a wonderful texture to them from the stubbly remnants of the cut wheat. The colours are warm and vibrant. The overall composition with it's high composition, centred VP and off-centred bales is much more interesting and balanced.

These two would've scored extremely high for me. Much higher than your actual entry (7).

And I meant to mention that Rail and Wheel would have been my second choice. I prefered a number of your alternatives to the one you entered.
Sorry!
