Hello,
I am very much a newbie here, and I have failed miserably so far. My entry in the botany challenge was much too small. I had difficulty with the sizing so I went with too small an entry. Would this have finished better had it been the correct size? Helpful comments?
Also, I am wondering how the my feet photo would have finished has I joined in time to enter it. Please offer any critisism. I have thick skin and I want to learn.
Thanks.

Ok, what photo editing software do you have? So, we can know how you may resize your images more easier and the right way...
Hmm, with your plant shot....I'd say that there needs to be some work on the DOF here...Focus on the center of the (grapes?) with a f/4 or near that. Basicly, the fruit should be in clear focus and the background should be blurry a bit. Depending on what editing software you have play around with a black and white or duotone version of it...if you want...some times a mudane shot can be interesting in b/w.
Ok, about the feet, IMO, I like your composition. Throw in some natural light. Then it needs a nice clean background...the carpet seems a bit distracting to (me)...I see that you can convert to black and white....needs some sharpening and need some toneage adjustments in curves or levels...It will bring out some details in those toes of Her's...Hmmmm, I hope this helps or gives ideas.. |

I've suffered the same thing when I took that 1st step into submitting my photos on-line.
However, I think you would have faired pretty well.your shot for the botany was great I'd given you a 10 if the size was right.
Try this, the next time you try submitting your picture, resize your picture by using the image size tool on your picture editor. Depending on whether your pix is a potrait or landscape have the longer side resized to 640 which is the max that DP challenge allows, if it's still to big try downsizing a little, it should do the trick.
I'm a learning photographer but hope my 2 cents worth wld be gd.
I like the shot of the feet, but you did mention that it was supposed to be your duaghter's tiny little feet, somehow the pix doesn't say it. I'm thinking maybe pulling back just a little from the focus area to reflect the full size of the feet in reference to something, probably a flower or a toy. That way we can see just how tiny her feet really are.

I have been using the Nikon Editor software that came with my camera and Photo Studio. As far as focus is concerned, I realize I still have issues with learning to use my digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 5700). What software do you recommend? Any helpful hints on mastering the transition from my old minolta to the new digital are also welcome. |
