Tranquil, unless you're looking for something stand mounted, I've managed a great cheat. You can find (especially at Wal-Mart or similar) the sun shields for the car windshield that are a silver fabric that can be folded down to a tiny little package. They travel great, they're pretty robust, and they've got a great reflectivity to them. I haven't been able to ever find them in gold, though, so you'd have to make due with silver.

Hope that helps!

Very smart. Thanks. For that I could make my own stand. Good call!

I ran into this item yesterday that I found both helpful and amusing.

Hopefully you can get there.

About the cheapest way to go on this and still get multiple colors is to pickup from WalMart or a hobby store some foam core board (fcb). This is like posterboard except its heavier and, as the name implies, has foam in the center of it.

You can cut it to circular shapes or use the rectangles.

If you REALLY want to go low cost then stop by Sears or Home Depot or anyone else who sells appliances. Ask them if they have any sheets of styrofoam that came as part of a shipping package. You can use this stuff to reflect light until you tan someone. Even though the surface can be porous the high albedo of the styrofoam makes up for it by producing even lighting.

One thing to keep in mind is that the more reflective the surface, the more careful you will have to be about keeping a good amount of light on the subject and not blowing out the details. You can always backup to spread the angle of the reflection and, thus, put less light onto the subject if you find the reflector too strong.

I don't know how good the reflectors are, but you can get some from www.backdropoutlet.com for about 50 bucks. only problem is, i ordered a backdrop from them once and never got it, had to get a refund.
