i am sick of being a consumer in the US.
Two months ago my washing machine started acting up. I called a repair guy and he walked in, saw it was a front loader and said, "yep, i cant do anything for you its probably the control board, call whirlpool, have a nice day".
so at that time i thought about buying a control board and installing it but i knew the bearings were going bad so i just decided to save my money and let it just die.
well last weekend it finally became unreliable, started stopping for no reason, wont run at high speed spin since the noise levels are unbearable.
I ordered a new one from home depot, top loader. apparently stores no longer stock any appliances so you have to wait for them to deliver it. my window was between 2-6 on a Saturday, they show up 5:40.
during ordering i had to option to buy the "required" stainless steel hoses, apparently you cant buy these special hoses in the store, only at the time of order, being naive i thought maybe they had some sort of special adapter, so i bought them.
I get the washing machine and the hoses are plain jane normal braided hoses. nothing special. also the drain hose is conveniently too short. so since the don't sell the extension kit made for the washer, i bought and extension. this piece of crap leaks water all over the place. so i just bought in line, and drain extension, For $22.00 for a fucking freaking tube of plastic. plus i had to pay expedited shipping since you know i need a washing machine at some point in the next 7 days.
so i buy a washing machine three years after the old piece shit broke and now im out $60 to hook the goddamn thing up.
im done. sorry for the rant, but it just sucks buying stuff any more the whole process is is a headache.

Here is your problem and you identified it in your rant.. "home depot" If someone at a brick and morter store tells me they will have to order it I respond so can I and eliminate the middleman. I used to work in retail for years on commission and made a good living at it, but that was before the internet. Now unless I just have to have it that day and they have it in stock I buy from the internet. Better prices No hassle granted do a ton of research before you purchase anything. Especially big ticket items. Customer service no longer exist.Satisfaction Guarantied comes with limits and warranties are only good if it was build defectively and NEVER NEVER buy the extended warranty. |

See key word is Home Depot. Sorry to sound like a broken record but they do not have the best customer service and are still a brick and morter store. You just basically used the web to make you purchase from them. Do you mind telling me what model washing machine you bought? I would like to show you a few things that you will find interesting. PM me if you like. Thanks
6 years retail 20 plus years IT field directly working with clients and dealing with manufacturers. You would be amazed what you will learn when you are on the inside.
A little truth/humor. 1999 I was in Waltham Mass at HP/Compaq Laptop school to learn how to repair a specific model laptop that we had sold over 10,000 to a certain school system. Half the way through tear down the teacher said "hey no one touch the e500 I dont have a manual for it so we will not be able to put it back together" I said oops. 20 mins later I handed it back to him and booted it up. I said we never have the manuals and half the time they are incorrect. Ended up putting it back together 2 more times from failed attempts for other class mates. I went back to my company and asked why we did not have manuals for everything we worked on and got laughed out the building. Don't get me wrong manuals are nice but not what gives me the ability to troubleshoot and repair most items.
During the class I asked why HP/Compaq laptops were so heavy. The teacher who worked for HP/Compaq stated " weight equals quality so they put a thin plate of metal in the bottom of the case to make it weigh more. since then many companies stopped doing that to lower the carrying weight of laptops. The next time you have a chance pic up a HP and a lenovo you will laugh. The HP weighs twice the weight. |

When I was working in desktop publishing we got in some new software. I told my co-worker I was going to take the manuals home that night to read through, to which he replied "Don't do that -- you'll just get confused!" |

Sorry to hear about the headache Mike.
What is strange is, that the automobile industry and the appliances industry have had a near inverted paradigm shift. It used to be that appliances lasted for ever, they needed repairs, but not too costly, and the whole thing would just keep going for another decade.(may parents had the Maytag washer they bought when they built their house in 1973 until about 3 years ago. Whereas, the auto industry shifted in that everyone would almost certainly look for a new car after nearing 100,000 miles years ago, and because of quality competition(Japan, Europe) there have been improvements in quality and longevity- still they make money on service, but it seems like the industries changed places.

We replaced our dishwasher about six years ago. It used to be pretty quiet, but now it sounds like a truck, creating an inescapable noise throughout the house. It was a tight fit to get it under the counter top, and since then I've installed a cork floor, further defining the word, "fixture".
When that sucker breaks, I'm selling the damn house.

Just got done replacing the Catalytic Converter"Upper" thanks California!!!! yes there are two on a Nissan Altima. A forward and and aft. Designed to last 80,000 miles. Down side is the converter still works perfect but they put a piece of mesh in the top that disentergrates and back flows into your head destroying your engine. Models affected 2002-2009 Nissan Altima 2.5 4 cyl. Nissan wants over $1500 for part, O'relly's want $699 for part. Found out who made OEM part and ordered it for store pickup from Advanced for $283 plus tax. Just got done installing it myself. Automotive industry is building cars to last 5 years so you will buy another one. computer industry is building computers to last 6 years before you cannot run crap. Electronic industry builds tvs to last 10 years instead of 20 like they used to. Moral of the story is no one builds anything to last it cuts into their profit. Learn to fix it yourself, do your homework before purchasing anything.

I just replaced my Maytag washer last year. It lasted 24 years! I cried when it broke, it worked so well. Never serviced, never needed it. Anyway, I bought refurbished maytag (washer & dryer set) that I found on craigslist from someone that used to own an appliance store. No problems at all. |
