Canceled Honors
No more invitations
ok on this last 1 I can understand the cupcakes and even the hugs from other parents. But you can't give out bday invitations at school because someone might get their feeling hurt. REALLY??? Have we become so weak of a society that everything has to be sugar coated. If a kid does something wrong, spank him/her. If he/she gets their feelings hurt occationally, thats ok it build character.

When I was a kid in 1957, they wouldn't let us give out party invitations or valentines in class unless the whole class was invited en masse. So that's been around a while. Personally, I think it's reasonable for teachers and administrators do what they can to blunt the formation of groups of "haves" and "have-nots" as long as they can. |

ok well then what about the canceling of the honors awards.....That would make the kids that didnt do well try harder..
And we gave out invitations in school all the time...Not everyone got one. That was a way of life. I left people out and a few times I was left out....We have turned into a society with no winners. They are getting the mentality well why should I even try..

Today's society expects everything to be given to them. They deserve it...rather than they earned it! |

Yeah, I have a pretty big issue with the honors cancellation thing. So some kids try really hard but can't make the grades......welcome to life.
I can't play the piano, but I can make music from an engine. My GF can't work on cars, but she paints beautifully. Do we think Beethoven could have sewn a quilt?
People are different, and part of what growing up and going to school is about is finding out who you are and what your strengths and weaknesses are. To deprive really bright kids of honors just because they're worried about how some other kids *might* feel is ridiculous.
So discourage the really smart kids, tell the ones who aren't going to be surgeons, scientists, and the like that they have just as much of a chance because they try hard.........who's deluding who here?

It's just Fox News, not something that actually happened. |

Well, actually, Fox didn't correct it, someone else did. However, for most stories, I use at least two unrelated sources to confirm details simply because not everyone gets everything right every time, and above and beyond that, Fox News cannot be trusted. |
